Evergreen Christmas Centerpiece And Tablescape
If you’re looking for a cozy spot for a casual meal, how about a beautiful spread on your coffee table. To create the look all you need is a pretty arrangement, enough room for plates, a charcuterie tray and candles.
I’m so lucky that our grocery store has a excellent floral department, because it saves me so much time and money. I created an evergreen arrangement with a bundle of pine and cedar greenery, pepper berries and hypericum berry flowers.
For a container, I’m using a mixing bowl, which is sitting inside a decorative bamboo bowl. Since this is a shallow bowl I’m using the old tape grid technique. My first choice is usually floral tape, but as it turns out regular tape works too.
The tape grid will support the greenery as I add stems working from the outer edge to the center. Pinecones work great for filler and look pretty too.
As long as I add fresh water every few days, it should last for several weeks.
Setting the Table
To create a layered look and continue the evergreen theme, use two cloth napkins set at a diagonal. Then arrange a few pieces of cedar with a serving tray or board on top.
You may not know this about me but I look for any excuse to use plaid. There’s another plaid pattern on the larger plates.
For more plaid tablescape ideas see my post Vintage Ticking and Plaid Tablescape.
Of course candles add to the cozy feel of the tablescape, but you’ll want to be careful where you place them. No catching your sleeves on fire, and never leave candles unattended.
For a little sparkle a silver bowl holds bread rounds to go along with the mercury candles. I love the vintage feel it gives the table setting.
As far as charcuterie trays go, I say forget the rules and include what you like best. We like a variety of sweet and savory flavors, and I’m always trying out new combinations. See my post Create Your Own Charcuterie Tray for a list of suggestions. All that’s left is to uncork the wine, get comfortable and watch a movie.

Oh wow Michelle. This is right up my alley. Christmas decor has to include fresh greenery for me every year. Such a smart idea to keep it contained in a great basket. I also like that you stayed with shades of green with just the smallest hint of red. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much Patti! I’m with you and love fresh greenery, even if it’s only one small arrangement. Merriest of holidays and happy Christmas!
Michelle,
This is gorgeous! I love how its monochromatic but all the different greens add such texture. The basket was the perfect choice to make it pop! Pinned.
Thank you Libbie! This year I incorporated pops of red in other areas, but the tablescape is all about the greenery. It’s a little more masculine which I think my husband appreciates. Thanks for pinning!
Michelle – your centerpiece is amazing! I’m so glad you shared a tutorial – I will have to try one myself. It’s simply stunning. And your table is so welcoming!
Thank you Jen for those sweet comments! Creating an arrangement with evergreens is easier than you might think.
I am so glad you shared this gorgeous and fresh centerpiece, Michelle. I love the detailed tutorial. I am excited to try this for myself with clippings from some nearby trees in my apartment complex.
Merry Christmas, Michelle.
Thank you Meegan! How exciting to have greenery in your area! I have a lot of cedar along my walking path that makes its way into my Christmas decor. 😉
It’s so beautiful! I need to make one for my table!
Thank you Lindsay! Merry Christmas!
Your arrangement is so beautiful and I love that is in a bowl and not a traditional vase. Looks like the perfect place to relax and enjoy that yummy tray of food you have. Happy holidays and so happy to be on the tour with you.
Thank you so much Sonya! This is one of my all time favorite arrangements. So easy and it should last a long time. Happy holidays to you too!
What a beautiful centerpiece and a welcoming scene. I would just love to sit at that table and have a nice long chat. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Rita, I would love that too. Hope that next year will bring new opportunities for us. Happy Christmas!
Michelle, I have enjoyed all your holiday fare this season, including this holiday table. That centerpiece! The charcuterie board is enticing too. Love your classic and clean style! Happy December!
Thank you so much Rita! Using what I already have is really testing my creativity this year. Luckily the greenery is working it’s magic. Happy Holidays!
Gorgeous fresh greenery centerpiece. I love how it looks with the basket.
Have a beautiful holiday,
Kippi
Thank you Kippi! I hoped the basket would make a pretty contrast with those deep green colors.
What a beautiful table you set! I would love to sit with you to chat while enjoying a glass of wine and your yummy looking charcuterie board. You surprised me when I saw how you made your centerpiece. I was fully expecting you to use oasis and then I saw how easy you made it on yourself by using a mixing bowl inside of another bowl with a tape grid. I hope you and the Mr. enjoyed this scene one evening with a good Christmas movie.
Thank you Paula! I would love that too, it seems like forever since we have entertained. This is really a simple arrangement and I’m glad you noticed my little shortcut. Speaking of movies, we watched A Christmas Carol last night. One of my very favorites!
I don’t think you’ve seen the shares that I’ve done for your posts in the past on my Sweet Pea FB page. I’ve got you scheduled for Sunday at 10 am. Also pinned!
Thank you so much for sharing Paula, I’m having a hard time seeing posts on the new FB format. So frustrating, but I guess I need to get with it!
Michelle I love the cozy and moody feel of your gorgeous pictures! You have made me want to create my own evergreen centerpiece. Yours is stunning! Merry Christmas…pinned!
Thank you so much Kelly for your sweet comments and thanks for pinning too! Merry Christmas!
Michelle, this is so beautiful and so perfect in that woven basket! I love the whole table too and wish I could stop over to enjoy this spread with you!
That is so sweet of you to say Kristin! This was the perfect spot for us this weekend so relaxing and just what we needed.
Such a pretty arrangement, the ceterpiece must of smelled so fresh and festive as you were arranging it. Merry Christmas to you!
Thank you Sonja, this is one of my favorite types of arrangements. There’s no wrong way to create it and it fills the whole house with fresh outdoors!
Just beautiful, Michelle! I love the plaid too – it is all just so fresh and appealing! And the charcuterie boards looks mouth-wateringly good…and now I’m hungry :)! Hope you got to enjoy it all post photo shoot!

Thank you so much Kim!
What a pretty tablescape. I love that you used a wide low bowl instead of a vase. My greenery needs refreshing, I think I will swap out my vase for a bowl.
Your photos are gorgeous too!
