Ideas For Making Easy Pillow Covers With Ties

Thanks for stopping by today to see my ideas for making easy pillow covers with ties. I have five different pillow cover looks to use in the living area, the bedroom and even out door spaces. This is a great way to change up the look of a room while still using your current throw pillows.

I should also mention these projects are a great way to use fabric remnants. I have quite a few pieces of fabric just waiting for the right inspiration to come along.

Ideas For Making Easy Pillow Covers With Ties

The first project is adding a pillow cover with ties to a lumbar pillow. Instead of using regular fabric though, I’m repurposing an oxford cloth pillow case with plenty of wear left. In fact all of the pillow covers I’m sharing today are made like pillow cases with the addition of ties.

Make a pillow cover with one piece of fabric folded in half. Before cutting make sure to allow enough fabric for the bottom and the side to have a one inch hem. Also think about how much of a hem you want at the opening and allow for that as well.

Stitch the bottom pieces together, turn the fabric and stitch the side together leaving the the top open. Hem the opening and add ties. I purposely made the pillow cover shorter than pillow so that the bright yellow floral and stripe pattern will show for just a little bit of color.

Make ties from the same fabric and stitch to the inside of the opening. For ribbon tie ideas see the post No Sew Dog Bed Cover.

The big Euro Sham is made much in the same way with two coordinating fabrics. For details see the post How To Make A Headboard Cover and Euro Sham.

More Pillow Covers With Ties

This ticking stripe pillow cover was the first one I made a few years ago. Ties cut from the fabric salvage give this a kind of vintage look, but what I like best are the ticking stripes going in different directions.

Of course you know how much I love ticking. It’s so hard not to use it everywhere!

This cute Sweet Dreams pillow has a new look with a pillow cover, and oh how I wish I could find more of this fabric. I love how this color brings out the other blue accents in the living room. It’s a medium weight linen that will hold up well for a pillow cover.

For a more tailored look I prefer the ties in simple knots instead of bows.

Do you have indoor/outdoor pillows needing a little update? My plaid pillows are ready for summer on the patio using the same nautical fabric from the guest room. It’s a happy coincidence that the colors go together so well.

Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest where the boards are up to date with ideas that you can use right now!

You’ll be seeing more of these outdoor pillows in an upcoming patio post. Until then be safe and stay well my friend.

Cheers!
