Summer Holiday Tour 2017

Summer Holiday Tour 2017

Hello and welcome to Thistle Key Lane’s summer holiday tour! Summer is already here, so let’s get started freshening up the house to make the warm steamy days ahead more enjoyable.

A few weeks ago I made a red, white and blue bandana wreath for the front door, so I thought I would continue the July 4th theme indoors.

By using items I had on hand, such as the white urn, the red 1776 book by David McCullough, and a blue tray, the patriotic color scheme came together quickly.

The bunting was an easy no-sew project using bandanas and colored string purchased at Micheal’s.  Instead of hanging the bunting, I decided to drape it across the entry table to highlight the stars and stripes letter I made a couple of years ago.

The rest of house is toned down for summer keeping the decorating simple and light.

When I’m looking for inexpensive ways to freshen up a room, I move accessories from one room to another and add flowers. I’ve found that rearranging forces me to clean and dust more often, so you could say it’s a win – win.

The lantern on the coffee table below is one of my favorite accessories because it can be used practically anywhere. Its been displayed in the entry, by the fireplace, on the dining table, both coffee tables and patio. With options like that, it’s here to stay. This summer I’m using the lantern to display my iron key collection, and a simple white candle.

A word of advise before buying accessories…ask yourself, “do I really really love it, and can I use it in more than one place in my home?”. You might find, you’ll save a lot of money by skipping the super trendy stuff that’s in today and out tomorrow.

Seashells are always part of my decor. Shells fascinate me with their beautiful textures and whimsical shapes. I display them in shadow boxes, bowls and on top of books.

In the kitchen, summer means fresh fruit and flowers. The more the merrier! I finally found pink and green hydrangea stems at the market. Score!

Right now fresh Rainier cherries are available and delicious. In a few weeks, we’ll be enjoying fresh peaches from the local farmers. How does peach ice cream, peach cobbler and peaches on the grill sound? Pretty yummy, I know!

The blue and white pottery has migrated from the dining room table to the coffee table. It adds a relaxing color to the room and another spot to display shells.

This is one of my favorite spots to sit, read and be lazy. Something I’m planning on doing this afternoon.

Thank you so much for stopping by to see the summer holiday tour. I hope you will find fun ways to freshen up your home while enjoying the warm summer days ahead.

Cheers!
