Never give up on pumpkins with potential. Just call me the “pumpkin whisperer”.
Earlier this year, I update the curb appeal of our house, when I repainted the front door with the Iron Ore color from Sherwin-Williams. Ever since then, all my door decorations have looked rather drab, including this old stacked pumpkin hanger. Up-close it looked interesting, however from the sidewalk, not so inviting.

Fall pumpkins painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Paris Grey
Knowing how paint can revive almost anything, I thought the pumpkin hanger was salvageable. Our southern weather had heavily oxidized the paint, transforming it from a bright orange to almost brown. The metal frame and the wires attached to the wood pieces have rusted, but still seems to be holding together.
This was a painting opportunity too good to pass up!
Vintage pumpkins with an updated twist
Instead of going back to the traditional orange color, I painted the pumpkins Paris Grey. (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, my favorite of course!) I also applied a light touch of dark wax with a cloth to the very edge of each pumpkin section for definition.

Leaves painted to resemble weathered copper
The leaves were covered with a mixture of green, grey and blue craft paints, then dark wax was applied liberally. The leaves remind me of weathered copper, when it turns a greenish blue patina. Love it!
Fall pumpkins updated with paint
The lighter color of the pumpkins with the spiral wires, adds a whimsical attitude to the front door, leaving me with a smile. In a week or so, our local farmer’s market will have pallets stacked with pumpkins. I love pumpkin shopping and will add a few to the front porch. I’m very happy you stopped by!
