How To Grow Paperwhites

Paperwhite bulbs ready for planting.

Having the opportunity to learn new things and share them with you, is why I love having a blog. Today I’m sharing how to grow paperwhites. This is my first attempt and now that I know how easy it is to grow them, it’s going to be an annual tradition.

If you’re a first timer like me, then let me show you the easy process. Before you know it, you’ll be growing paperwhite too.

This is what the bulbs looked like when I bought them at a local plant nursery. You may say I cheated a wee bit because I picked out bulbs that had already gone through the chilling process and were starting to sprout.

Supplies

Fill container with about 2 inches of rocks for a good base. Then nestle bulbs on top of rocks and add just enough water to cover the bottom of the bulb. Place container close to a window for good sunlight.

Since this was the first time I’ve grown bulbs indoors, I decided to use glass containers. This had enabled me to watch the roots develop and keep tabs on the water level.

After one week the roots and stems are growing like crazy. The next time I grow bulbs, I’ll add a deeper base of rocks. This base is only about an inch and a half and the roots will need more room to grow.

You may be wondering, why I’m posting how to grow paperwhites, when I’m at least three to four weeks away from blooms. Well let’s just say I’m optimistically planning a tablescape next month, and I thought you may want to plant paperwhites too. Hopefully I’m not getting over-confident but my expectations at this point are pretty high.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Cheers!
