Fall Home Tour With Neutral Colors

Welcome to Thistle Key Lane and my first official fall post of the season featuring a fall home tour with neutral colors. Today I’m sharing one the easiest ways I’ve found to decorate for fall which is using neutral accents. This is my way of transitioning into a new season. Of course when pumpkin season arrives, and mums start blooming, I can mix in pops of color. It’s like setting the stage for autumn to arrive.

I’m so happy to be joining the Celebrating Fall Home Tour Blog Hop, hosted by my friend Leen of Sand Dollar Lane. We have 15 bloggers sharing tons of fall decorating ideas so get ready to pin lots of ideas to you fall season boards. You’ll find all the links of participants at the end of this post.

If you’re stopping by from 2 Bees In A Pod, I’m so glad you’re here. Vicki and Jenn have the most amazing style and I love those early fall refresh ideas.

Fall Home Tour With Neutral Colors

As we get closer to fall type weather I enjoy decorating with warm earthy tones in a variety of textures around the house. Here are some of the items I’m concentrating on with neutral colors.

The fall tour starts in the entryway. On the entry table I have a very simple grouping or arrangement in a zinc drawer. It’s kind of like using a wooden crate or tray.

I love creating little vignettes like this that can be moved to a counter or coffee table if I need to make a quick change.

Inside I have an odd mix of items including a cloche with raffia pumpkins. For a complete tutorial click on my post Fall Cloche With Raffia Pumpkins.

For a pop of green I have a faux topiary and some chippy terra cotta pots holding wood acorns. A few old books add a bit of seasonal color and the owl cut out in the back is just for fun. Click on How To Create A Faux Topiary to make one for yourself.

As soon as I see pumpkins for sale you can bet I’ll wedge a few baby boos into the arrangement. The yellow and white stripe tiger pumpkins are pretty cute too.

Neutral Colors In The Family Room

Our family room is bright and casual with views of the back yard and pool area. I usually keep decorating to a minimum in here to maintain the easy going relaxed style.

So I might be a little obsessed with spinner and mini bottle shaped gourds. This year I’m displaying them in a large vintage dough bowl on the coffee table along with a few decorating books and green plants.

The look is simple yet eye-catching because the gourds have so many interesting shapes. I can’t help picking them up, because they make a sound like a baby rattle when you shake them.

On one stack of books I have a vintage looking whisk broom. It has that great texture and color we love to see in fall decor. More neutral accents such as pillows and throw blankets give the family room a casual comfy feel. The grain sack pillow covers take a lot of abuse but never seem to wear out.

I’m only giving a tiny sneak peek at my fall mantel. The rest will be in a post tomorrow morning for this months Pinterest challenge so be sure to check back then.

Simple Flowers And Apples

Adding a little splash of color to the kitchen table is a simple bachelor button and chamomile arrangement with maple leaf branches. I usually take advantage of what we have growing in our yard and forage every time I create a flower arrangement. Sometimes it’s a branch or two and sometimes it’s herbs from the patio container garden.

I’m still waiting on my zinnias to get full size. They seem to be struggling this year with all the rain and cloudy weather we had at the beginning of the summer. More on zinnias to come.

One thing I love about the approach of fall season is all the beautiful apples. These Honey Crisp apples are as big as grapefruits. It’s so easy to load up a bowl with pretty apples to keep out on the table and promote healthier snacking.
