Today I’m sharing an early fall tablescape with sunflowers that’s sure to make you smile. There’s just something about sunflowers that everyone seems to admire. To me these bright yellow petals radiate strength, vitality and lots of positive vibes. What’s not to love?!

Early Fall Tablescape With Sunflowers
I love the concept of transitioning from summer to fall since I live in Texas, and our summers seem to be never ending. So I think of ways of introducing fall into my home a little at a time. An easy way to bring in fall colors is with fresh flowers, and believe me I look for any excuse to buy flowers.
Here are some of the items I’m focusing on to create an early fall table setting.
- yellow and white flower arrangement
- navy container for centerpiece
- classic white dishes and wine glasses
- navy linen napkins
- brown rattan chargers
- fresh pears
- cutting boards
- harvest bread with a plaid napkin wrap
- silver votive candles
Creating A Sunflower Centerpiece
The centerpiece on my kitchen table is loaded with a variety of chrysanthemums, and sunflowers with a little bit of greenery. I never know what I’ll find at the grocery store, but I was so happy to find a bundle of healthy looking sunflowers.
I forgot just how gorgeous sunflowers can be, and these beauties are so big around. Their petals are so thick and feathery, and I’m loving how pretty they are with white and yellow mums.
You many recognize the container I’m using for the arrangement. This is one of the terra cotta cachepots I painted this summer. To see the post click on How To Hand Paint A Cachepot.
When using a wide shallow container like this one, make a grid across the opening with either floral tape or clear Scotch tape. I find this is most helpful especially when arranging to keep large heavy blooms from falling over.
Most of my arrangements are created by grouping like flowers and colors together. Of course as much as I would like my centerpieces to be symmetrical they never turn out that way. No one ever seems to notice, or maybe my family loves me too much to say anything. It’s good to be loved!
After setting the table I felt like the centerpiece looked a little lost, so I placed it on top of a dark bread board. I’m really liking the contrast between the table top and bread board. It gives the whole arrangement a little more weight.
Early Fall Table Setting With Color and Texture
Around the table I’m using my everyday white dishes since this is a casual dinner. If you’ve been following me for a while you know I love setting the table with my grandmother’s silverware. It’s over a hundred years old and very worn, but I treasure every single scratch and ding.

At each place setting I’m using rattan chargers for more of that dark contrast between the table and white dishes. They also bring in an element of texture for interest.
Since I’m using a navy cachepot for the centerpiece, I’m repeating the color with navy linen napkins. Navy and yellow naturally go well together, and I like using rich colors for a fall setting.
For bit of fun I added a green pear in a little bowl at each place setting. No matter what season we are celebrating I always have a little bit of green somewhere in the mix.
Bread, Wine & Candles
The last items to set the mood for the table are bread, wine and candles. The bakery in the grocery store was just putting these harvest bread loaves on display and I just couldn’t resist as I passed by.
To keep anyone from slicing into the bread, I wrapped a plaid napkin around it until dinner time. Works like a charm. 😊
