Sometimes it’s so hard getting to all the projects that are lined up for summer, but at least I finished my blue ticking summer wreath. This is one I think we can enjoy all summer. It’s decorated with patriotic colors, giving it a farmhouse cottage nautical look and vintage appeal.
All the patriotic colors make this ticking wreath perfect for a 4th of July decoration. Originally the summer wreath was intended for the front door, but I moved it inside with rain approaching. Now it looks so cute decorating my chalkboard that I’m keeping it indoors.
To make this summer wreath, here’s a list of supplies and a few easy steps to follow.
Supplies For Summer Wreath
- 1 yard navy blue ticking fabric
- scissors
- red and blue bandanas
- red & white string
- blue & white string
- 12″ foam wreath form
- a few straight pins
- craft glue
For this project I tore ticking fabric into 2-1/2″ x 36″ strips. I only used about five strips of fabric so I’m saving the rest of the material for future projects.
Wrap strips of ticking fabric around the wreath form covering it completely. Next wrap the colored strings randomly over the ticking fabric and tie into a knot. Note: If needed use a few straight pins to hold the fabric strips in place, then removed the pins once the colored string is tied and knotted.
A mini bunting is made from scraps of red and blue bandanas cut into triangles, then glued to the red and white string. Be sure to leave enough string on each side of the of the bunting to tie around the wreath.
The bow is made from three, 1-1/2″ x 36″ strips of ticking fabric folded and tightly tied in the middle with string. To make the bow, separate the folds and fluff, then tie it to the wreath. For streamers, use the colored string tied under the bow.
Of course now that the wreath is indoors, I’ll have to come up with something else for the front door. At least the flowers make a welcoming statement this summer.
