Summer Tablescape

Colors pop on this flat lay place setting.

Spring and summer tablescapes have me all excited about barbecue season. Normally we would dine on the patio, but with the temps inching above 90 we’re staying indoors for this family gathering. At least I don’t have to worry about the wind interfering with this pretty barbecue tablescape.

The overall feel for the table is rustic, playful and pretty. It’s also casual with mix-n-match stemware and cutlery. I used to worry so much about everything matching. Now I just pull out a variety of wine glasses and it works.

It wouldn’t be a barbecue without a gingham print tablecloth or napkins. Plus fresh flowers make any occasion special. Using my collection of ironstone creamers, I created a tiny bouquet for each place setting.

Why not let food serve as the centerpiece? To add an element of texture, I used a stack of cutting boards and a wooden bowl filled with mini loaves of bread. This left enough space on the table for a few more bottles of wine.

My heart is always happy when we gathering around the table. In my opinion good stories, good food and good wine make the perfect dinner party. I love entertaining indoors as much as outdoors but we have to be flexible with the weather.

The mini loaves of bread are wrapped with parchment paper and tied with cotton kitchen string. They’re almost too cute to eat!

I had envisioned white daisies for the individual bouquets, but had to make a spur of the moment change when the market was sold out.  The little sprigs of ivy were clipped from the yard.

There are lot’s of ideas here that you can use for a summer gathering. Comments are welcome, let me hear from you!

Cheers!
