Spring Decorating Ideas For An Ottoman

Today I’m sharing my simple spring decorating ideas for an ottoman or coffee table. The ottoman in the living room takes center stage, so it’s always the first place I decorate in this room with seasonal color. It’s also one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the house, so that’s why I like giving it extra attention.

When I say simple decorating, I really mean just that. One of the easiest ways I decorate a table or shelf is to start with books. I love having them out in the open within arms reach for reference or casual reading.

If you have books you love, but their jackets or covers don’t necessarily go with your color scheme, change them. Make cloth a book cover, paint the cover with a coordinating shade or temporarily remove a book jacket. These are easy tricks that I use all the time.

The books I’m using on the ottoman are mostly books on decorating which seems quite appropriate.  When stacking books I usually organize them in order of size, because that’s just the way I am. Then I create little platforms for a variety of objects.

The green clay pot holds a maidenhair fern, which is perfect for bringing in a healthy dose of bright green color. For shades of blue I’m displaying a glass tray depicting a variety of bird eggs and for a bit of texture a white starfish.

What To Display On Top Of Books

Other little pops of color around the room include a light weight throw on the sofa with a pretty linen floral pillow cover.

On the wingback chair I have a simple grain sack pillow cover and a blue checked throw. This brings out the other blue shades in the rug and watercolor over the sofa. It’s just enough to brighten up a neutral decorated room.

On a side note, I’m sharing a view of our new shutters, which is why there are so many photos pointing in this direction.

Getting rid of the old blinds and installing shutters gives this room a whole new look. The right shutters can really make a statement, and the amount of light they let in makes this space so inviting.

Remember all these ideas can work on a small coffee table too. Thanks for letting me share my spring updates with you.

Cheers!
