Our simple winter home decor ideas continues this week with a tour of our living room and dining area. I’m sharing subtle ways to decorate with seasonal greenery, my favorite vintage finds and cozy touches.

Simple Winter Home Decor Ideas
I feel a little bit like winter is ignoring us right now. Of course I can hardly complain when the sun is shining, and I don’t have to bundle up to run out to the mail box and back.
Well no matter what’s going on out doors, right now I’m enjoying the warm coziness of our home. In the living room I only have a few horizontal areas to decorate, so I’m always conscious of keeping them clutter free.
That means I look for subtle ways of decorating with flowers or greenery, and I rotate my favorite vintage finds.
Decorating With Seasonal Greenery And Cozy Pillows
The living room tour starts with the ottoman that serves as a coffee table. On the oversized wood tray I have an arrangement of pine clippings in my up-cycled bottles.
This is an effortless way to bring in fresh seasonal greenery that will last for a long time. I first had five bottles, but thought it looked crowded. Three is definitely the magic number for this size tray.

On the wood tray I also have a four wick candle with a cozy woodsy scent and a pretty wick cutter. Easy peasy!
The pillows that were in the family room during the holidays are now in here. Whenever I buy pillow covers I try to imagine how they will look in different rooms.
I keep telling the Mister I’m saving money using the same pillows in different rooms. Not sure if he is really buying into that, but it sounds good anyway.
In truth, I’m finding that my neutral pillows, and the new green pattern pillows work pretty much year round. They also work in different rooms, so I’m calling it a win!
Decorating With Vintage Finds
I love sharing my secretary desk, because it’s a multifunctional piece of furniture. It’s loaded with character from stains on the writing surface from an ink well and years of daily use.
The upper shelves serve as our liquor cabinet, and the desk drawers hold all of my napkins and tablecloths. To see my storage solutions click on my post Organizing Napkins and Linens.
On the drop down desk, vintage seltzer bottles make an interesting contrast with the acrylic white tray. The handsome glass decanter set is a Christmas gift from our daughter and son-in-law. It’s great having smart kids!
This is a pretty spot for a little flower arrangement with white alstroemeria, blue thistle flowers and pine clippings. Don’t you just love this winter botanical combination?
In the French vinegar jar, I’m displaying a variety of feathers I ordered last year for a tablescape. I’m still planning on using them in a future table setting, but until then, I like having them out on to enjoy.
The cubbies are filled with little curiosities such as books, floral frogs, keys and a fossil. How that for vintage?
Winter Dining Room
My simple winter home decor ideas spill into the dining room. If you’re not sure what to do with your dining room table when you’re not having big gatherings, then you might want to give this a try.
I can’t think of a better time to catch up on reading than in our slower winter months. To encourage reading time display books in orderly stacks on your dining table.
In the center of the books you can display whatever your wish, such as a plant or flower arrangement.
