Neutral White Walls In The Kitchen

Neutral white-painted walls in the kitchen have created an instant facelift for the space. Town hall tan is gone, and in its place is divine white by Sherwin-Williams. The change is like a breath of fresh air. If the color looks familiar, it’s because the same color was used in most of the other rooms of the house. Now the family room and kitchen are seamlessly united.

As promised in the post Decorating The Foyer For Christmas, I continued the navy color, gale force by Sherwin-Williams, around the corner ending at the bar. Basically, it’s an accent wall running through the center of the house. The color is strong, bold and enveloping which anchors the family room and the kitchen area.

Below is a photo from last fall with the town hall tan color. It was a beautiful color, however the navy and white combination is more my style. With the rest of the walls painted in the same divine white, we now have a much better balance of color.

In almost every home magazine I have read recently, soft neutral white tones are trending. The color divine white is a warm neutral color and a great backdrop for the kitchen. It seems to relax the space, not wanting to complete with the dark cabinets, floors and busy granite.

Of course, you don’t have to jump on every new trend. Just think of trends as a guide to assist you in making decorating decisions when you don’t know what direction to turn. Most importantly, find the colors that make you feel happy and comfortable in your home. If you make a mistake, paint is the easiest part of decorating to correct. Believe me, I know all about that!

The lighter color in the kitchen seems to compliment the white accessories that I have collected over the years. The ironstone pitcher was in my room growing up and is still one of my favorite treasures.

There are many reasons why I love my kitchen, one being it is very forgiving. The granite counter can hide a lot of sins including red wine and marinara sauce but when it’s clean, it really shines.

Now the light reflected into the kitchen from the white walls, has added a new brightness to the granite counter and travertine tile, giving me one more reason to love the space.
