Make Your Home Look New After Painting

Make your home look new after painting using these five simple tips. If you go to all the trouble of painting a room or an entire house, why not make the most of it. I’m in the process of organizing our home after painting, and it’s so exciting to see all the details come together.

The new paint is a lighter shade than before and looks so fresh. Most of the house is the same color, with the exception of the blue ceiling in our bedroom and the blue laundry room. Gotta have a touch of blue somewhere.

Five Tips To Make your Home Look New After Painting

The last few years we have been busy replacing windows, adding shutters and now repainting. What a huge difference it makes, and yes our home is looking new again. Of course the little details can make a big impact too.

My tips are simple things that you may not think of right away, but should be part of practical home maintenance.

Paint Trim and Doors

You know a lot of people only paint the walls and ceiling and don’t think about freshening up the trim or doors. Trim can really take a beating, but just a little wood filler and paint can hide years of wear. If you have trim that is to damaged to repair you might consider replacing it.

Our trim color and paint finish are now the same through out the house. Viewing the trim from one room to the next looks so much better than before.

Replace ceiling Registers

Unsightly ceiling registers can really date a home. Think about replacing ceiling registers if they are discolored or have rust spots. Here’s a close up of one of our registers with rust spots. As you can imagine the ones from the bathroom are really scary looking.

You can always try spray painting as a quick fix, but eventually the rust will come through again. Replacing them is the best solution.

Replace Electrical Outlet and Light Switch Covers

We have a few metal outlet covers but mostly the plain white plastic type. Over time these crack or break and need replacing.

Remember to clean the light switches before replacing the light switch plate.

Paint Or Replace Recessed Light Trim

My plan was to replace the recessed light trim, but our paint guy said they could paint right over them. It’s impressive how nice they look, and now they blend in with the ceiling color. Yay no extra cost!

Update Door Handles

Replacing door handles is one more way to make your home look new after painting. I’m finally getting around to replacing the rest of our old builder grade door handles upstairs. Not only are these on the unattractive side, but the inside mechanisms are starting to break like crazy. They must have an expiration date I wasn’t aware of. LOL!

It’s taking me a bit longer to get the house back in order than I anticipated, but I’m getting there. As far as photos go, these may not look very exciting, but seeing the end results sure makes me happy.

Thanks for stopping by today and letting me share what all is going on!

Cheers!
