Laundry Room

New LG washer and dryer

Welcome to my new happy place, the laundry room. I can’t help it! Just look at my new LG washer and dryer!  They are so good-looking, high-tech and functional, I obviously  had to show them off in a freshly painted room. I also seized the opportunity for cleaning and organizing.

Storage on the shelves look so much better

The first order of business was removing all the detritus from the horizontal surfaces. Then I painted the whole room, including the ceiling with the color Reflection from Sherwin-Williams. The soft gray-blue color is very soothing and the perfect complement for the washer and dryer. With the painting completed, the other areas including the sink, cabinets and doors were scrubbed intensely. Luckily, with the grime removed, I didn’t have to repaint the doors, trim or cabinets. Scored big with magic erasers!!

Blue and cream basket with rope handles from Container Store

The striped baskets with the rope handles are from the Container Store. They were the perfect size to hide bins and a cooler the husband previously stored on the shelves.  I decided to let him continue utilizing that space, since I can’t reach that area anyway without a step-ladder.

The white curtain behind the washer hides the unsightly hoses and water valves.

Burlap canvas with hooks for dog leashes.

Storage behind the door for steam vacuum and trash can

Needing a good place to store dog leashes, I went shopping in my supply closet and pulled together hooks, a burlap canvas, craft paint and a stencil. Perfect! The wood frame holding the burlap canvas was wide and deep enough to allow hooks to be attached with screws.  Then I stenciled paw prints and added the caption “ready to walk”. Sandy goes nuts when she hears that!

Behind the door was enough room to park the steam vacuum and a trash can.

View the sink and cabinets with new hardware

New hardware was added to the cabinets, more for function than decoration.  Always the optimist, I’m sure the hardware will keep the husbands hands off the cabinets, when he comes in from the garage to wash up.

Audubon postcard mounted between glass

Pretty rug for the laundry room

A pretty blue and white rug and art work were the final touches. The print is an Audubon postcard of Blue Buntings, mounted between panes of glass.

Sink area organized

Every time we enter the house from the garage, we pass through the laundry room.  In order to avoid it from returning to its former disgraced state, I will pledge not to use the laundry room as a dumping ground when entering the house. Anyone else trying to do so, “SHALL NOT PASS!”  We’ll see how that goes. HaHa!

Cheers!
