Brunch Tablescape Ideas

When someone in the family is celebrating a birthday, that’s all the excuse I need to get started on a brunch tablescape. See how these ideas created a table setting with a country French style that’s simple and relaxed.

When I think of a country French tablescape, I imagine an understated elegance with a linen table cloth, simple place settings, a rustic centerpiece and of course something blue.

Setting The Table

The table started with a linen pinstripe tablecloth. Most of the time I use a chargers for each place setting but sometimes I prefer the soft look of a tablecloth. The un-ironed look for linen is in and sets the stage for a casual table.

White dishes also set the mood for a casual brunch tablescape. Years ago I had to replace broken dishes and decided on classic white. Why? Because white goes with everything and when you’re artistically plating food, it looks more appetizing on a white dishes.

No brunch tablescape is complete without Champagne flutes for mimosas. For glassware similar to mine, see these French style tumblers.

Navy blue and white kitchen towels are used instead of cloth napkins. Did you notice I used stripes, windowpane and plaid patterns for a bit of fun? I love using kitchen towels in different ways and these were less expensive than buying cloth napkins.

Something Organic

Instead of creating a large flower arrangement, I used green hydrangeas in three small clear glass vases. Talk about quick flower arranging. Nothing could be easier.

I also used two small blue and white ceramic planters, each filled with a styrofoam ball covered with sheet moss. They look like mini topiaries. The combination of greens on the table looks fresh and new. For more sheet moss projects, see the post DIY Moss Covered Letters.

Add Some Drama To Your Brunch Tablescape

Tall wood candlesticks, as well as the sweet birds nest have rustic charm with lots of texture. I recently added a distressed look to the candlesticks by sanding the finish and applying liming wax. The height of the candlesticks give the tablescape a sence of drama.

Little Details

For a touch of whimsy I added a ribbon of mini poms that meander around the vases and candlesticks. It’s a festive touch, perfect for a birthday celebration.
