Right now I’m in between big projects, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite vintage finds in the kitchen. This room is one of the easiest to decorate, mainly because there’s not that much room to accessorize. Besides it only takes a few old pieces to add a bit of charm.
My love of vintage things started when I was a little girl with this ironstone pitcher. I guess you can say we are like old friends growing up together since it was displayed it my room. Sometimes I use it as a vase or here in the kitchen to hold utensils.
You will hardly ever see small appliances on my kitchen counter, because I keep them hidden when not in use, except the Keurig. Must have coffee you know. That allows just enough room for a few of my favorite treasures.
I love cutting boards and usually rotate a few on display. The large rustic bread board is a recent find, and will take up a permanent residence here because it’s too large to store under the counter. The round one in front has a vintage feel but it’s actually new. Mixing old and new is my kind of decorating.
On the other counter a cute rusty scale that has just enough faded green paint to imagine how it looked when it was new.
The antique curio cabinet is a favorite spot for seasonal displays. Right now my not so big collection of ironstone creamers are sitting on top. I went antiquing this weekend and added the smallest one.
Where do you look for vintage pieces? Flea markets? Yard sales? I remember the first time I heard Martha Stewart talk about tag sales, I thought how quaint. Growing up in Texas we had garage sales or yard sales, but a tag sale sounded so sophisticated. These days for a spur of the moment vintage shopping, I stop at antique stores or antique malls. The junkiest one’s are the best!
The rooster chalkboard turned pantry sign isn’t old, but it adds a farmhouse vibe to the kitchen I couldn’t resist.
The last item on the vintage kitchen tour is an ancient looking ice-cream scoop. I’m thinking about framing it and a few other utensils, but I’m still looking for the right shadow box. Maybe something with a modern farmhouse look.
Now that the weather is improving, it’s time to get out and go junking. You never know what treasures you will find. Thanks for stopping by!
