Today I’m sharing how I’m transitioning from holiday to winter decor. Do you ever feel kind of sad after all the holiday decorations are put away? I enjoy starting the new year with a clean slate, but I have to admit I miss our Christmas tree the most. That’s why I like the idea of decorating for winter. It’s a great way to chase away those post holiday blues, and it makes your home feel warm and cozy until spring arrives.

This may sound a bit crazy, but I love winter. How about you? We seldom get snow, but we do get our fair share of cold weather. If the temperature outside is below 50, you can bet we probably have the fireplace going.
To make my winter decorating easy on the budget, I’m using many of the same items I used for Christmas.
- small faux trees
- pinecones
- vintage silver
- books
- candles
- moss covered balls
- unshelled nuts for filler
- antlers
- soft throw blankets and pillows
Transitioning From Holiday To Winter Decor
Winter decorating this year starts in the family room using faux trees on the mantel. These are the same trees I had on the entry table, but before moving them to the mantel, I gave them a snowy look.
If you are wondering if you can paint faux trees, the answer is yes you can. Using a chip brush and white chalk type paint, I dabbed a little paint sparingly on the top side of each branch and pinecone. I love the snowy effect it gives the trees, and there’s still plenty of green showing for color.
A simple black and white striped ribbon dresses up the base of each tree. You know me and ticking stripes. I always have to have it somewhere in the room.
Vintage silver is pretty any time of year, but I especially look forward to using it around the holidays and into the new year.
Simple Winter Decor Coffee Table
On the coffee table the rustic dough bowl holds moss balls for a pretty pop of green color. They also add interesting textures along with the pinecones, antlers and unshelled nuts in the bowl.
The large glass hurricane is my favorite candle holder, but I like using small votive candles for cozy flickering light too.
Cozy Reading Nook
Can you guess where my favorite spot is to relax in the family room? Yep you’re right. The chair and ottoman next to fireplace is the perfect spot to sit with my laptop or a book.
Once I settle in with a soft warm throw, it’s hard to get motivated to move except for when I need more tea.
