Simple Summer Styling Home Tour

Welcome to our simple summer styling home tour of our living room and surrounding spaces. This time of year every room in our home is so bright with cheerful sunshine flooding in, and I’m loving it from sunrise to sunset. I’m also enjoying a simplified way of decorating that is allowing our home breath. Round ottoman with wood tray and flowers. Simple Summer Styling Home Tour.

This week I’m joining my blogging friends for the Bloggers’ Best Summer Home Tours, hosted by my friend Kelly of The Tattered Pew. This is a five day tour with a new group of bloggers joining in each day sharing their beautiful homes, and festive ideas for summer. All the links are at the end of the post, so you can come back each day to see the newest group that is joining the tour.

If you are stopping by from Dabbling And Decorating, welcome to Thistle Key Lane! Ann is one of my favorite bloggers, and I know you will adore her vintage loving style as much as I do.

Simple Summer Styling Home Tour

Our simple summer styling home tour starts in our living room with views into to the dining room and entryway. In our living room, I’m decorating with light weight accessories such as woven baskets, trays and bowls.

There are also items that remind me of past summers such as shells, and pops of green to bring the outdoors in. The whole idea is to enjoy that easy going feeling of summer, and savor what each day brings.

Simple Summer Styling with Flowers

One of the easiest ways to celebrate summer is with fresh flowers. Peonies are not that easy to find, but there they were at Trader Joe’s saying pick me, pick me!

Green hydrangeas create a pretty base, and what a show stopper these pink peonies are. I don’t think I have ever had any this pretty, or been lucky enough to have all of them blooming at the same time.

Branches from the back yard add a cottage feel, and I think they also create an interesting shape to the arrangement.

It’s hard to focus on anything else in the room when I have beautiful flowers, but I’ll try to zoom in on other details.

By the way did you notice the bamboo bowl next to the flowers? Sometimes I like leaving a vessel empty, to me it creates a sense of space and it adds to the casual summer feel.

Decorating With Summer Pillows

A couple of new pillows in a soft blue create a since of calm. I love all shades of blue and try to incorporate it in every room. I used to be so uptight about selecting pillows, but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it.

Now my approach is to concentrate on blending patterns, and trying not to worry about being so matchy matchy.

Pops Of Green

No matter what season we are celebrating, I just gotta have pops of green. The fresh energy it gives the room is so important. In one corner of the living room, I’m trying out a table that I moved from our bedroom.

It’s an awkward size, but it seems to be working here. On top, a woven tray holds vintage seltzer bottles and a large demijohn.

I’m in love with how these monstera leaves look in this large demijohn, and I hope to propagate one.

The wall basket hanging over the mirror is another green addition. This is faux greenery of course, but it still brings in color and interest to this side of the living room.

Ironstone Dishes and baskets

To lighten up the corner by the windows, I’m replacing the landscape watercolors with ironstone platters. These were next to the secretary desk.

In their place I now the vintage plates that were once over the entry table. It sounds a little confusing when I start moving things around, but that’s what makes seasonal decorating so much fun.

Adding baskets is a great way to add a summer vibe to any room. I’m using a square basket for storage on the secretary desk next to the wicker vase, and two large picnic baskets create a side table.

From the living room you can see into the dining room and entryway. I’m so happy with the summer vibes in both of these rooms. For the first time in a while I feel like our home is in sync, and I’m loving this simple easy going style.
