Rustic Christmas Tablescape With Plaid
This rustic Christmas tablesape with plaid is set on our small round kitchen table. It’s a casual space to relax and linger over a meal, telling old stories and wild tales.
Our rustic table setting starts with a tartan table runner that is actually three overlapping cloth napkins.This is a simple trick to use on a small table like this one.
The napkins are a classic navy and green plaid from Ralph Lauren, that I found at HomeGoods a few years ago.

Rustic Christmas Table Centerpiece
The centerpiece starts with a white porcelain cake pedestal and a glass cloche. I’m convinced that using a cloche for displaying the most common items can make them look extra special. It’s like magic!
Under the cloche is a small collection of bottle brush trees. The largest trees in the front have green and black tartan bows with a dusting of artificial snow. There are three more bottle brush trees in the back that are left plain.
On top of the cloche is a simple green tartan bow with a dried orange slice ornament. I went kind of overboard on dried orange slices this year, and that’s why you’re seeing them in almost every holiday post. I strung three of the orange slices on a short piece of ribbon and glued on a star anise. Easy peasy!
Around the base of the cake pedestal is a variety of fresh evergreens and an old deer shed. I’m mixing in a few pieces of deer moss too, which softens the arrangement and brings in another layer of green.
Finishing the centerpiece are pinecones, dried orange slices and a few more of the star anise. I’m loving the texture and color these small details provide.
Plaid Place Settings
Now for the place settings on our rustic Christmas table. I’m using my large classic white dinner plates with plaid salad plates. Mixing plaid patterns even on a small table like this one works for me. The more the merrier!
Vintage silverware and elk handle knives add a bit of romance to the table. We spotted the knives in a little shop in Colorado on our very first family vacation. The Mister’s dad bought them for us, and I have treasured them ever since.
At each place setting I have either a singe jingle bell or a trio of bells with green velvet ribbon. It’s fun to mix in something shiny or sparkly with rustic elements.
Next to the jingle bells I have plain wooden houses, which I found in the dollar section at Target. Since I couldn’t decide on any other color, I just spray painted them white. I’m sure you’ll be seeing these again next year with a whole new look. Maybe plaid, who knows!
In case you’re wondering, when it’s time to eat we move the plate decorations to the center of the table. 😉
Christmas Open Shelves
Next to the kitchen table are two open shelves with more Christmas decorations. I enjoy looking at my small collections and holiday decor whenever I’m sitting at the table.
The top shelf display is my homemade gingerbread village with simple white tinsel. I can’t believe how cute they look in this shelf vignette.

On the bottom shelf are just a few of my vintage stoneware pieces, including a sweet café au lait bowl. Inside the bowl are wooden trees. I think they look kind of sweet with the gingerbread houses.
Did you notice the twig deer head? That’s a new addition that adds an unexpected rustic element to the space.
