Pumpkin Spice Recipe

There’s nothing more disappointing than being hungry for something and not having the ingredients to make it. We had a little dip in temperatures last week and all I could think about was oatmeal, and how wonderful it would taste with just a little sprinkle of fall happiness on top. To save you the agony and disappointment as well, here’s a basic pumpkin spice recipe to keep on hand.

Measure out each spice and combine. Place in a clean air tight jar for storage.

For best results check the “best if used by” dates on your spices.

This is the perfect time to go through your spices and discard those that have expired before you go to the store to make your own pumpkin spice recipe. I thought I was getting better about checking the dates on my spices, but still found one that expired in two years ago.

Spices are expensive, but using the freshest ingredients will make a huge difference in the foods you prepare.

Once you make your own fresh pumpkin spice you’ll never want go back to buying pumpkin spice off the shelf. You can also adjust the ingredients, a little more of this and a little less of that, is perfectly alright for your baking needs.

Pumpkin pie spice became popular in the 1950s and 60s along with cake mixes for the busy housewife. Now we’re busier than ever but appreciate fresh ingredients more.

Even if you’re not a pumpkin fan there are amazing ways to use pumpkin spice in so many recipes.

Spice up your Life

I could get so carried away with this if I had time!

I always have fun with food photo shoots but taking photos of these spices took this experience to a whole new level. The intense aroma of the open spices on the table was intoxicating. All I could think about was what recipe I would make first with my pumpkin spice.
