How To Make Moss Covered Letters For A Valentine Vignette

I’m sharing a simple craft on how to make moss covered letters for a Valentine vignette. It’s a quick project that you can complete in less than 30 minutes, and you can use it over and over. If you’re like me you may not decorate very much for Valentine’s Day, but you may still want to create something special.

For today’s project I’m using a XOXO MDF cutout which seems perfect for a Valentine vignette. I found this hugs and kisses sign in the dollar section at Target a few years ago. The links below will give you more ideas since I’m unable to find a source with one exactly like mine.

Supplies For Moss Covered Letters

  1. First lay the sheet moss with the web backing side facing up. Cut sheet moss slightly bigger than your letter cutout.
  2. Apply hot glue to the letter and place the sheet moss on top. Work in small sections apply hot glue to the edge of the letter and press the sheet moss in place.
  3. Once the hot glue is cool. Trim off excess moss. Use the little discarded pieces to fill in empty spaces.
  4. Just so you know, the moss fragments can get pretty messy so keep the vacuum handy for quick clean up.

Now I have a moss covered hugs and kisses moss sign to display in a simple Valentine vignette. I made a similar moss letter project a couple of years ago. It started out as a St. Patrick’s Day decoration, which I ended up using most of the year. To see the post click on DIY Moss Covered Letters.

A couple of weeks ago I bought these beautiful paper whites. It only had one bloom at the time and I didn’t realize just how tall they were until I got home. In fact they’re so tall they touch the pendent light over the kitchen table.

The paper whites I grew a few years ago were a lot shorter than these, so I’m displaying these on a low ottoman. Mini pine cones around the base cover the soil and look so pretty this time of year. A simple gauzy ribbon holds the stems upright for now.

Creating A Valentine Vignette

To create a vignette I’m using some old books, the XOXO moss sign and a few ironstone pieces on a woven tray. Behind the XOXO sign is a stack of vintage frogs that’s helping to keep the sign in place.

I love how the moss and pine cones compliment each together, and it’s a very easy arrangement to throw together.

Do you grow paper whites or use them in your decor? If so, think about creating a little Valentine vignette with them.

Cheers!
