Today I’m sharing a simple kale flower arrangement and garden tablescape. This is one of those spur of the moment centerpieces for a last minute family get together. Luckily our grocery store still had some pretty flowers to choose from Saturday morning.

It’s been a year since our little family gathered and even though I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. I love serving sparkling rosé in my French champagne glasses, and setting a pretty table with my vintage silverware.
I wouldn’t necessarily say we relaxed around the table very long, but that’s expected when we’re keeping up with the grand littles.
Kale Flower Arrangement And Garden Tablescape
Sometimes my best ideas happen when I’m under pressure. Are you like that too? I spy kale with the rest of the greenery in the floral section, and think…why not! I’ve never used kale in an arrangement, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give it a try.
I love the bright green colors of kale with the pale purple veins, and I looked for blooms that are easy to mix with it.
Three heads of kale fill up a lot of space, so I only needed two small bunches of flowers to finish the arrangement. Of course I thought it still needed something extra, so I cut some fresh basil from the patio.
Yes, I’ve been a bad herb mamma and have been neglecting my patio container garden. My basil is blooming like crazy, but it sure looks pretty in the arrangement.
My plan of hiding the bucket inside a basket didn’t turn out so well. The proportions were all wrong and it looked terrible. I didn’t have time to recreate the arrangement in another container, but hey sometimes you just have to roll with it.
Garden Tablescape
Here’s what I’m using to create the centerpiece.
- galvanized tray
- gingham kitchen towels
- old books
- terra cotta pots in various sizes
- wood architectural pieces
This centerpiece is all about creating layers. The tray goes in the center of the table, then the kitchen towels and then the open books. I like the look of the open books and they make an interesting platform for the flowers.
A few more books on each end lengthens the centerpiece and the terra cotta pots add color. Did you notice the wood pieces have a flower carving? I think they make an interesting addition with just a hint of old blue paint and rustic texture.
Around the table I’m using what I already have on hand such as rattan chargers, my everyday white dishes and a mix of stemware.

Shop The Look
I’m thinking about recreating this look for early fall by changing the flowers and using a different container. Maybe I’ll find the right kind of basket while thrifting today. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
