Ideas For Decorating With Plates

I’m finally ready to share more ideas for decorating with plates. A few months ago I found white plates hiding in plain sight in a kitchen cabinet, and now my blank walls are thanking me. If you are looking for an easy way to decorate a room with interesting shapes or just need a pop of color, try plates.

One good thing about decorating with white plates is that they can go just about anywhere. I have a mix of ironstone, china and everyday pottery in varying shades of white. For more ideas see my post Decorating With Plates Simple and Easy.

Living Room Ideas For Decorating With Plates

I love the shape of these two ironstone platters that I found in my favorite local antique mall right after the holidays. After stacking them to one side of the large polo watercolor I had to recenter the sofa. I’m pretty sure that’s not the right way to decorate but hey it works.

You may wondering why there’s a little space above the platters. Well I did that on purpose because I’m optimistically thinking I’ll find another one…someday.

On the other side of the room the three white dinner plates take on a new look with the addition of this cute rattan bar cart. The plates look more like they are part of a grouping now. Here’s a cart similar to mine.

Decorating With Plates Over A Headboard

Three of the plates from on my recent kitchen reorganization are now in the guest room above the headboard. These are Portmerion earthenware dishes that have a pretty leaf pattern around the edge. Their thickness and weight remind me a lot of ironstone.

What I really like about the white plates is how great they look on these light blue walls. This is the most serene room in the house and one of my favorites to decorate.

China plates with a cottage garden feel compliment the ticking headboard and bedding in the master bedroom. I love the previous Limoges plate, (see before views in Updating A Bedroom With Patterns), but the scale of these plates work much better over this wide head board.

Plates Over The Entry Table And Hallway

Don’t you just love how these white plates look on this navy wall. They may not have as much character as stoneware or ironstone but the overall look is working for me.

The rest of the earthenware dishes are hanging out with the deer head in the adjacent hallway. This is more of a trial run. I’m thinking it may look better to have a few more plates in a circle around the mount, but we’ll see. What do you think about the plate and deer mix? Let me know your thoughts!

Bonus Decor Tip: Instead of using wire hangers, use adhesive plate hangers, which are available in different sizes. They don’t harm the plate and are easily to remove by following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Cheers!
