With a guest on the way, I had to kick it into high gear to finish painting, then photographing the guest bathroom mini makeover reveal. My last post was all about creating a project board which helped me put my ideas into action. What a difference between the before and after!
Guest Bathroom Mini Makeover Reveal
My goal was to add some drama with darker cabinets to tie in the dark gray floor tiles. At the same time, I wanted a seamless transition between the white shower tiles and the white walls.
Painted Cabinets
The largest task in the bathroom makeover was painting the vanity cabinets and walls. This color on the cabinets may look familiar, because it’s the same paint color I used on the front door and the hand railing from previous posts.
Iron Ore is one of my all-time favorites colors. It is from Sherwin-Williams, as well as the wall color alabaster. The coffee-latte color is now gone and won’t be making a reappearance unless it’s the real thing in a coffee cup.
Update Hardware
The old brushed nickel hardware was replaced with chrome pulls with minimal details. I picked the chrome hooks, towel ring and toilet paper holder, because the design has a simple clear-cut shape with substantial heft. The same goes for the cabinet door and drawer pulls. Since I didn’t have any major expenses with this project, I was able to splurge a bit on quality hardware.
In addition to the hardware upgrade, the toilet seat was replaced with a slow close seat and lid. Very nice!
Add Accessories
The bathroom accessories are very simple, which allows guests to have plenty of room for their necessities.
To add warmth to the room, a wooden dough bowl is used to hold an extra hand towel and bars of bath soap. Sometimes all it takes is one organic element to add a touch of character.
An adorable unfinished bamboo stool was placed next to the tub as a handy spot for shower items. It’s one of my favorite purchases for this project. Natural elements such as the flowering plant on the window ledge seem to make the room more inviting.
Other updates in the bathroom include wood blinds for the small window, replacing the switch plates, shower curtain, rod and rings. They are small things that can make a big difference.
In the original project board, I had planned a patterned bath rug in dark gray and white but the small room actually looks better with a simple white bath rug. Not bad, to only have one change from the original design. For more ideas see the post Fun Ways To Accessorize A Bathroom.
