I’m sharing some easy embroidery hoop Christmas ornaments that you can make right now. One thing I love about this time of year is getting a jump on making holiday decorations and you can do it too.

When I say easy, I mean this is probably the easiest ornaments I have every made. Plus I get to use whatever fabric my heart desires. Of course you know me, there has to be something festive like plaid on the Christmas tree. In fact I usually look for any excuse to decorate with plaid for the holidays.
When thinking about fabric, this is a great way to use up flannel or wool scraps, flannel shirts, old flannel sheets or wool scarves. You get the idea right, but first think about what color you want to highlight on your tree.
I’m focusing on using more dark greens and blues in my Christmas decorating this year, so I bought two flannel plaid patterns for this project.
Easy Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornaments
I think these embroidery hoop Christmas ornaments are going to look so pretty on our tree. My plan is to fill in empty spaces with them, while adding extra color and pattern where the tree needs it the most. I hope to have my tree up next week and can’t wait to see how these will look.
Supplies
- fabric
- scissors
- 3″ embroidery hoops
- ribbon or string
Start by laying out the fabric. Then space embroidery hoops on top, so you can decide where to cut the fabric. Some of the pieces I cut out were almost too so small, so I suggest cutting out fabric pieces that are about 6″ square.
Place the smaller hoop under the fabric then place the larger hoop on top. Adjust the screw as need and stretch the fabric in every direction until it is taut. This is important when working with plaid, because the lines in the pattern look best when straight.
Now turn the embroidery hoop over and trim the extra fabric away. Small sharp scissors come in really handy for trimming if you have them.
Add a string or ribbon and the embroidery hoop is ready to hang on the Christmas tree.
Since I’m using two plaid flannel fabrics, I made 6 ornaments out of each one. Note that each ornament is slightly different, because I’m capturing various parts of the plaid pattern.
As you can see mine are super simple, but you can add embellishments to hide the screw if you wish. Think about adding a ribbon bow or hot glue faux greenery and mini pine cones.
If I were really industrious I would cross-stitch initials or holiday wishes such as Joy or Merry on each one, but that’s probably not happening this year.
One reason why I’m keeping these embroidery hoop ornaments so simple is that I may want to change them up next year. I might decide on tweed, grain sack fabric or different colors of plaid flannel. There are so many possibilities.
