Today I’m sharing my DIY French country style heart wreath with non-traditional colors for Valentine’s Day and beyond. The look of a blue and white grain sack type fabric, gives the wreath a bit of a country French feeling that I really love.

This is Pinterest challenge reveal day and creating a Valentine heart wreath is this months project. Our craft project this month comes from Sky of Capitol B with a darling Valentine wreath. My take away of Sky’s wreath is the overall delicate look of the wired vine heart shape, and of course the cute paper hearts.
Sky uses a Cricut Maker to create paper hearts which is really motivating me to get one. I love the uniform size and the fun patterns of the hearts.
DIY French Country Style Heart Wreath
My wreath is a little more rustic looking because the heart shapes are cut from a recycled kitchen towel. You read that right!
I bought this kitchen towel from Sur La Table several years ago, because I love the pretty blue color and classic French stripes. Parts of it have stains but there’s enough good fabric for small projects like this one.
Supplies
- naturally wrapped wire vine
- wire cutters
- scissors
- needle and thread
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- fabric
- poly fill
- ribbon
Making A heart wreath
This is my first time using the naturally wrapped wire vine, and I must say I’m a bit mad at myself for not trying it sooner.
It’s really easy to form into a heart shape by adding a loop at the center top. Then wrap the ends like a vine around the side of the wreath to secure the shape.
Spelling out Love with the same naturally wrapped wire vine gives the wreath more interest, since I’m using fewer hearts on the wreath. To attach a word, name or initial to the wreath create a little loop at both ends of the wire. Then decide where it looks best and tighten the loops around a wreath wire.
Creating French Country Style Hearts
To create the fabric hearts first make a heart shape pattern out of heavy paper or card board.
Trace around the heart shape with a pen a little larger than the pattern. Then cut just inside pen marks so the finished hearts look clean.
Cut out a front and back for each heart. Attach the front to back hearts with a straight or running stitch by hand. Before closing, add a small amount of poly fill or a small cotton ball will work too.
The poly fill gives the hearts definition and enough body to keep their shape for hot gluing to the wreath wire.
The last step is tying a short ribbon to the top of the heart for a hanger.

I’m enjoying my new French country style heart wreath so much, which is currently hanging on the pantry door in our kitchen.
