I hope you’re ready for holiday crafts, because today I’m sharing a fun DIY dried orange and cinnamon garland. It doesn’t take much to string this garland together, and I’ll make it even easier with couple of my tips.

DIY Dried Orange And Cinnamon Garland
Do you like to make garlands? Every year I work on something different to add interest to my seasonal decorations and this orange and cinnamon garland is a welcome addition to my kitchen pot rack.
I’m so glad I made this garland early so I can enjoy it through Thanksgiving, Christmas and into the new year. Are you ready to make one too?
Supplies
- cinnamon sticks
- dried orange slices
- hemp string
- scissors
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- toothpick
Start by creating two small holes in each each dried orange slice with a toothpick. You can also use a nail or large needle.
Then carefully run the hemp string through each hole of the dried orange slice, spacing them about 7 inches apart.
The reason why I like using hemp string is that it is very stiff and easily treads through the small holes. It also give a little bit more body to the garland.
Once you have all the orange slices on the hemp string, then you can add the cinnamon sticks.
To attach the cinnamon sticks you can either tie them by threading your string through the center of the orange or use your trusty hot glue gun. I tried it both ways and ended up gluing all of mine on.
If you are using the hot glue gun method, then you’ll want to prepare your cinnamon sticks first. Do this by wrapping a section of string around each cinnamon stick, tie it off with a knot and trim the ends.
Now you can hot glue a cinnamon stick to each side of the dried orange slices.
I’m really loving how the orange slices look with a cinnamon stick on both sides. That way I don’t have to worry about which is the front or back of the garland when I display it. Something to think about when you decide where to hang your garland.
In the spaces between the orange slices are a pair of cinnamon sticks. Before tying them onto the hemp string, I suggest using a dot of hot glue to hold the cinnamon sticks and string together. This will make it a lot easier when securing them with a section of string.
I created a couple more garlands using just orange slices, spacing them closer together. I plan on using lots of garlands for Christmas, and I can’t wait to share my ideas with you.
Pot Rack With Orange and Cinnamon Garland

This rack is a great spot for hanging herbs and seasonal flowers to dry. Last spring I decorated the pot rack with terra cotta pots and a spring basket for a pop of color. To see my post click on Spring Wall Basket Upcycle Project.
I have a couple of “new to me” copper items on the pot rack. One is an oval Jello or aspic mold and the other is a decorative strainer. These are antique mall finds that look so much better after a good cleaning.
My copper pots are bright and shiny again too. Which reminds me of all the other things I need to start cleaning before the rush of holiday decorating starts.
I know there are good homemade recipes for cleaning copper, but I love using Bar Keepers Friend. Check the label for all its other uses and you’ll be amazed.
For fun I’m sharing how the orange and cinnamon garland looks with a mini pine cone garland and a bit of holiday greenery. Just imagine how pretty it will look with fresh pine or cedar clippings.
