Last Christmas, Angus was a wee puppy getting into whatever mischief he could reach. If you know anything about wheaten terriers, you know they typically take at least three years to grow out of their insufferable puppy stage. I keep telling myself, one day he will become a great companion just like our Sandy. Until then, I’m keeping the decorating simple, which means no Christmas tree again this year. Instead I’m decorating Christmas in plaid with stockings, pillows, plates, napkins, ribbons and a bunting.
Bringing in the fragrant outdoors lets everyone know the Christmas season has started. I love fresh pine and cedar greenery. This year I added apples, pears, pinecones and dried orange slices to the greenery for a vintage look.
I’m thrilled to be sharing the beautiful tartan and tweed stockings I purchased from Smokin Tweed. I happily stumbled upon Smokin Tweed on Instagram and fell in love with the cleaver fabric combinations on the stockings. The artistic details are simply gorgeous.
The plaid bunting was another delightful discovery on Instagram from Diyinspiredhouse. The vintage look of the bunting ties in perfectly with the tweed stockings and the pom-pom garland was added just for fun.
With the table set, I’m in the mood to entertain. How about you? On the kitchen table we have several different plaid patterns, but somehow they all work as if they were made for each other. Well actually, the plates from Pottery Barn were made to be mixed and matched.
The plaid ribbon is from Ballard Designs. For a more relaxed look, remove the wire so the ribbon has a more natural drape.
Remember to use things that you already have but in different ways. I have several different sized buckets which are very handy for organizing or to hold plants. I’m also reusing the 1/2 peck wooden container for the unshelled nuts, which usually resides on the kitchen counter.
