Cozy Christmas Mantel In Red And White

This holiday I’m enjoying a new look in our family room with a cozy Christmas mantel in red and white. It all starts with a festive vintage looking sign, which is temporally replacing our classic landscape watercolor.

I’m really loving the look of this cute mistletoe sign and it’s fun change to be decorating with a touch more red this year. Red is not a color I normally use a lot of, because it seems to clash with our everyday decor. However, red in small doses mixing in lots of white and Christmas greenery is really working for me.

Of course the mercury glass trees are back on the mantel this year with a couple of glass trees to add extra sparkle and shimmer. They’re just as pretty during the day as they are in the evening reflecting light around the room. I never get tired of decorating with mercury glass trees, and I’m always a little sad to pack them away in January.

You can say, that’s the main reason why I start decorating in November now. An early start allows me to extend the holidays and relax a bit more as we get closer to Christmas.

A simple faux pine wreath and a ribbon bow adds a layer of color over the sign. The twill ribbon looks very much like ticking which is why I like it so much, and it’s almost the same color as the red on the sign.

When shopping for ribbon I like to look in the regular ribbon section instead of in the holiday collection. You never know what you’ll find that might be a better match for your decor.

An old trick for decorating with greenery that works so well is mixing faux with real. I’m using long snowy pine jingle bells picks along the mantel with a few cedar clippings here and there.

In a few weeks I’ll add pine clippings to bring in the wintery outdoors. Don’t you just love this time of year with the overlaying aromas of pine, citrus and herbs come together. It puts me in the mood to get in the kitchen and bake something!

As you can see the tree is up as well, sporting more red and white this year too. I’ll be sharing more photos of the tree very soon.
