Classic Christmas Living Room Tour

I’m so happy you’re stopping by for our classic Christmas living room tour, and a little bit of old fashioned decorating. My focus this year is to create a cozy living space by mixing festive holiday trimmings with our everyday decor. Vintage lantern, candle, greenery. Classic Christmas Living Room Tour.

This week I’m teaming up with 35 blogging friends for the Bloggers’ Best Holiday Home Tours, hosted by Kelly of The Tattered Pew. This is a five day tour with a new group of bloggers joining in each day. What a treat it is to visit all of these beautifully decorated homes.

I’m joining the holiday tour on day four. If you just happen to be stopping by today, or hoping over from Le Cultivateur, welcome to Thistle Key Lane! I think you will agree with me, that Emily’s vintage style of decorating is absolutely gorgeous.

All the links are at the end of this post, so you can visit each one at your leisure.

Classic Christmas Living Room Tour

Here are a few decor elements that you’ll see in our classic Christmas living room tour this year. Some add sparkle, and some add warmth for a cheery holiday mix.

A few of the decorative items are specifically for Christmas, but most are everyday accessories with the addition of holiday trimmings.

Styling The Ottoman

Let’s start with styling the ottoman with a simple vignette. If I only had one place to decorate in the living room it would be the ottoman.

It serves as our coffee table in the middle of the seating area, and therefore it’s the focal point of the room.

A large wooden tray holds books, and a vintage lantern which is one of my favorite thrifting finds. I don’t mind a bit that its base and glass sides are missing, in fact that’s probably why I love it all the more.

Fresh pine clippings, a few pinecones and a pretty satin green ribbon adds a Christmassy touch to this vignette.

On top of the books is the first of three silver bowls, I’m using in the living room that belonged to my mom. I always look forward to using these little bowls to decorate with or to serve salty snacks with cocktails.

Don’t you love this pretty display of unshelled walnuts?

In contrast to the silver bowl is a vintage French terracotta pot holding a faux cypress tree. Just a bit of preserved moss around the base makes the tree look almost real.

Soft Muted Colors And Cozy fabrics

My normal Christmas color pallet of cream, taupe and green is expanding this year to include soft shades of terracotta. Muted colors and cozy fabrics gives our living room a relaxed feel and invites long conversations.

You’ll find soft terracotta patterns on sofa pillows which plays nicely with a light green lumbar pillow.

The taupe velvet chair is still one of the most comfortable places to curl up and read. Sometimes it’s too comfortable and I find myself dozing off.

By the way did you notice the simple cedar garland over the large painting. This is a new look for me, and something I’m trying out. Let me know how you like it.

Table Top Decorations

The bar cart is back in the living room to make space for the Christmas tree in the family room. On top of the cart are the mini Christmas trees that were on the entry table last year. To see the post click on Christmas Home Tour With Green And White.

Simple dried orange slices dress up the mini trees, which is sort of becoming a theme this year. Check out my post Old Fashioned Christmas Decorating Ideas to see how the orange slices look on the mantel.

Next to the winged back chair I added a couple of my favorite Charles Dickens’ books on the accent table. Don’t you just love the cover of the vintage book?

On the other side table is a larger silver bowl with pinecones, glittery antler picks and fresh cedar clippings.

If you don’t have a lot of space or items to decorate with for Christmas, just fill a bowl with pinecones and greenery. This is the simple side of Christmas that I always enjoy so much.

Styling The Vintage Secretary Desk

The last stop on our classic Christmas living room tour is the vintage secretary desk, that also serves as a liquor cabinet. I’m storing my seltzer bottles and a large demijohn on top, adding a bit of festive greenery and a glass bead garland.

On the desk is the third silver bowl I mentioned, holding mini pinecones. How easy is that?! If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know how much I enjoy using fresh flowers whenever I can.

What a surprise to see blush colored roses at the grocery store this time of year. I think the roses look so beautiful in this petite arrangement of winter greenery.

These are the scents that really make our house feel like home during the holidays.

Last but not least I have to point out the tree shaped tower of vintage floral frogs. All it needs is a star to go on top. 😊
