I’m ready to share my decorating ideas for Christmas in the kitchen and family room. This is the hub of the home, so I want it to be festive without going overboard. You know me, keeping it simple is what I do best.
Christmas In The Kitchen And Family Room
I shared of glimpse of our family room in my post Cozy Christmas Mantel in Red and White last week. Now you can see the whole room with fresh additions of greenery on the mantel and coffee table. All it takes is a few springs of pine and cedar to bring the room to life.
The Christmas tree is sporting a little more red this year, which ties in with the red and white mistletoe sign. This year I’m using red and white plaid bows instead of my classic green plaid, and I’m loving it.
Of course I have to introduce our sweet Sandy girl, who always manages to take a nap in the middle of every photo shoot. She’s now 14 and still doing really well, although our walks are not quite as long as they used to be.
Did you notice the red ticking ornaments? They add a vintage feel to the tree and the ornaments look so pretty with the white glitter houses and beaded snowflakes. To see how to make them click on Ribbon And Ticking Christmas Ornaments.
Speaking of ticking, I’m reusing the gift boxes from last year with new ribbon and village house cutouts for tags. If you read the post Snowy Village House In A Jar, I have a free printable of village houses. My friend Yvonne of StoneGable made a note in the comments of using the houses for gift tags. I love that idea too, so thank you Yvonne for that fabulous suggestion!
On the coffee table I’m using a vintage dough bowl to hold mercury glass balls with fresh greenery, pine cones, cedar orbs and an antler. This is simple arrangement to create and I can easily switch out the greenery when it starts looking too dry.
Christmas In The Kitchen
Christmas in the kitchen starts with greenery on the cup rack which I use for my copper pots. Preserved boxwood garland has such a beautiful shade of green and so easy to drape. I added a twill red and white ribbon just like the one on the wreath over the mantel.
For a bit of holiday fun we are really enjoying this festive reindeer sign by the breakfast table.
On the coffee and hot chocolate bar I’m using a tiered tray to display holiday treats. This is where the old meets the new, with vintage Santa mugs and pretty plaid coffee cups holding ticking napkins.
A new addition to the kitchen is a little faux cedar tree. The fabric base it came with didn’t go with my decor so I just replaced it with square piece of green plaid flannel and used the same piece of jute string to secure it.
Just something to remember when you see decorations on discount and want to make it work for your home.
