Thank you so much for stopping by for a quick look at my vintage style Christmas front door decor. This year I’m decorating with greenery and accents of gray and blue plaid. So simple I know, but those are two of my favorite things to decorate with when I think about Christmas.

Christmas Front Door Decor

I know that sometimes decorating for Christmas can be overwhelming, intimidating and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. You should decorate your home inside or out just the way you like it, without trying to keep up with the neighbors.

The joy of being a blogger is sharing ways to decorate, using what I have with the addition of a few embellishments that will inspire you to do the same.

Fresh And Faux Greenery

One of the best tricks for front door wreaths is mixing faux and fresh greenery. A few pine and cedar clippings can quickly turn a plain faux wreath into one that looks very expensive.

This year I used fresh cedar clippings to make the wreath look more lush and full. The clippings are held in place by the stiff wire branches of the wreath. For more ideas on fresh cedar clippings in arrangements, click on the post Simple Ideas for Christmas Mantels.

Depending on where you live, the fresh clippings may have to be replenished during the holiday season. With our crazy temperatures in Texas, we go from the 50s one day, then rocket into the 70s the next. This can make the greenery dry out really fast.

In the middle of the wreath I added a rocking horse cutout with a distressed “believe” painted across the center. It’s held in place with a few of the wire branches, that way it can be easily dismantled after the holidays.

Decorating tip: When you’re out junkin or antiquing look for objects that can be turned into Christmas decor. The rocking horse was an upcycled paint project that I still look forward to displaying every year. Last year it looked really cute on the Christmas tree.

My Norfolk pine tree is enjoying the fresh air on the porch in a vintage looking zinc bucket wearing a plaid scarf just for fun. To get the look check out the post How To Create An Antique Zinc Finish.

On the other side of the door I decorated the top of the lantern with more of the fresh cedar clipping and a plaid bow. Inside the lantern is a simple white candle surrounded by pinecones.
