Just in time for spring I’m bring the outdoors in with a bird theme inspired centerpiece and table setting. We have so much fun watching our little feathered friends this time of year. Right now they’re busy building their nests while zipping back and forth to the feeders.
This months Pinterest challenge is all about creating a spring birdhouse centerpiece. If you’re new here…each month our host Cindy of County Road 407 selects an inspiration photo for us to recreate. Each participant puts their own spin on the photo according to our individual style of decorating.

Bird Theme Inspired Centerpiece
Here’s my takeaway of the photo that I’m focusing on to create my bird theme centerpiece.

My goal for each Pinterest challenge is to use what I already have on hand in ways that I may have not have thought of before. The exception is usually fresh flowers, because I love any excuse to buy flowers or plants.
Creating A Centerpiece on A Tray
The centerpiece starts with a painted galvanized tray that will fit on our small kitchen table. I like creating arrangements on trays, because it’s so easy to move them to another table or a counter if needed.
My only snag for this challenge is not having a birdhouse or birdcage to use, so I’m substituting a decorative galvanized house instead. Its soft blue painted roof and little round cutouts on each side reminds me of a birdhouse, and it’s just the right size too.
To display the galvanized house I’m using a cake pedestal as a riser in the center of the tray. Then for a natural touch, I’m wrapping a few grapevines around the house, and using a boxwood wreath to hide the base.
Adding Flowers And A Bird Nest
I love the look of the flowering branches, and I just so happen to have a blue jar to display them in. They create height for the bird theme inspired centerpiece and that pop of pink draws the eye up.
A vintage milk bottle holds a mini arrangement of white ranunculus, which softens the hard edges in the arrangement.
It wouldn’t be a bird theme inspired centerpiece without a bird nest. Right?! This little faux bird nest holding a little speckled egg sits on the other side of the tray along with a small bouquet of white blooms.
Have you ever noticed how some faux bird nest look a little too perfect? This one looks so much better after removing the string holding it together, and intertwining some short twigs from our back yard.
Bird Watching Bucket
A blue bucket on the table holds small field binoculars and a handy Birds of Texas reference book. We carry it outside on pretty evenings when we have dinner on the patio. That way we can identify new birds that stop by for a bite.
Bird Place Setting
Instead of framing a bird drawing, I’m using mini bird prints in the center of each plate. These mini prints are from a book of Audubon postcards that I purchased years ago while visiting the Audubon House and Gardens in Key West.
Cloth napkins carry that pretty blue shade from the house roof to the place settings. The easiest way to create this look is to tie a knot in a cloth napkin, then tighten the knot after slipping in the flatware.
One last touch to the place settings are the wicker chargers. They not only have that wonderful texture we love so much, but the color adds a welcome contrast to the table.
