Yesterday was a dreary and rainy day, so I decided to make a winter white wreath to brighten the front door. The assembly was quick, and soon I was hanging the wreath when I realized I should also share my new smart-looking coat rack . First the winter white wreath…
As I was saying, the wreath assembly went quick, since I was only using a few items: a plain straw wreath, ribbon, thread and wool felt pompoms. The heavy winter white striped ribbon was wrapped around the wreath, and tied to hold it in place.
Next, I strung the wool felt pompoms together using a long needle and embroidery thread. There’s something about the feel of wool felt that I really love. I guess it reminds me of the fuzzy sheep we admired last summer, when my daughter and I traveled to Scotland.
The mini pompom garlands were attached to the inside of the straw wreath with a drop of Dap. I could have used a hot glue gun but I wanted to attach the wool felt using as little glue as possible. This will make dismantling and reusing the wreath easier when I’m ready for a new look.
The color combination reminds me of the humorous chicken wreath I made last year in the post, Irresistable Spring Chickens.
Now for the coat rack…which is actually a cup rack. I ordered the cup rack from Magnolia Market and hung it in the entry instead of the kitchen. I wanted to fill the space with something interesting and architectural. The cup rack was the perfect solution, and offers a convenient spot for scarves, jackets and dog leads.
The coat rack gives the entry a farmhouse feel. To me it says, “take off your jacket and stay awhile”. Of course, if it were in the kitchen it would say, “let’s have a cup of tea”. It’s great having things with a dual purpose for when your needs change.
