The last couple of months I’ve really been craving citrus and of course went overboard buying oranges. I finally started squeezing them to use them up, and that’s when I thought about making a few cocktails. After all orange juice isn’t just for breakfast anymore.

The Orange Blossom Cocktail I’m sharing today has a short list of ingredients (gin, Cointreau and orange juice), which is in keeping with my mixology motto of keeping it simple.

To me, fresh squeezed orange juice is the key, and as we all know fresh ingredients make recipes that much better.

Two of my favorite orange varieties are Satsuma and Clementine, which so far this year have been consistently sweet and delicious, therefore no need for the addition of simple syrup in the recipe.

There are lots of recipe variations for an Orange Blossom Cocktail, but as I mentioned, keeping it simple works best for me.

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a low ball glass over fresh ice or in a martini glass.

Garnish with an orange peel.

Recipe can also be made in small batches.

Cocktail Tips

Buy quality liquor. The best cocktails are meant to be sipped and savored, so as tempting as it might be to buy cheap liquor your cocktail will be left wanting and your guests disappointed.

Whenever possible use fresh squeezed juices instead of reconstituted. If you have to buy ready-made juice look for all natural juice that is not from concentrate. Look for these in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.

For drink consistency use a jigger to measure ingredients, and a good quality shaker to optimize your bartending experience.

Just for fun, update your barware with double wall cocktail glasses and classic martini glasses.
