Classic Whiskey Sour Cocktail Recipe

I thought I would start your Monday with a classic whiskey sour cocktail recipe. This is a refreshing drink you’ll enjoy sipping at the end of a busy day. Make them one at a time or make a small batch to serve your guests.

The intension of this post is for viewers 21 and older. For more cocktail recipes see Strawberry Lemonade Margarita, Orange Blossom Cocktail,  or the classic Sazarac.

I love classic recipes like a whiskey sour because they are so simple to make. I’m always saying fresh ingredients are key to a successful recipe which I’m sure you will agree.

Sour mixes can sometimes have an after taste, so I much prefer making my cocktails with fresh juices. It only takes an extra minute or two to squeeze a few lemons and limes but what a difference it makes.

For the right kind of sipping experience, I suggest a good premium whiskey such as Gentleman Jack for it’s smooth sweet finish.

A whiskey sour is a simple recipe but the layering of flavors adds to its complexity. Refreshing  tart citrus juices, mingle with simple syrup to compliment an appealing smooth whiskey finish.

Classic Whiskey Sour Cocktail Recipe

Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a cup of ice. Shake for 20 to 30 seconds then strain into a glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a cherry or a slice of lemon.

My favorite cocktail cherries are Luxardo Maraschino cherries, which I try to keep on hand at all times. Emphasis on try!

Recipe Notes

Substitute a good premium bourbon for whiskey such as Woodford Kentucky Bourbon for an equally pleasurable experience.

I like the zesty combination of lemon and lime juices, but if you prefer a more traditional approach, omit the lime.

Serving Suggestions

If you’re looking for new cocktail glasses I recommend double wall whiskey glasses which are perfect for keeping drinks cold longer. I also love the silicone ice sphere molds for classic drinks and stainless steel cocktail picks.

Don’t forget to greet guests with yummy appetizers. For healthy suggestions see my post Three Easy Appetizers For Fall.
