Apple Crisp Recipe

Apple Crisp | White Bowl | Blue Paid Flatly

There’s a whole lot of delicious magic going when making an apple crisp recipe.  All that butter, sugar and cinnamon melting into those apple slices making them juicy and tender, while the oats on top turn into crispy sweet crumbles.  Yum!

I don’t know what’s going on in your supermarket, but apples have taken over the produce section at my grocery store with gorgeous displays.

For this recipe I’m using two excellent apple varieties – Pink Lady (aka Crisp Pink) and the Golden Delicious, which are both firm and sweet. Baking these two together creates a wonderful flavor combination. The Golden Delicious flavor is mild compared to the Pink Lady, which is sweet and sassy. Just the way I like it!

Apple Crisp Recipe

Preheat oven to 375º F

Grease skillet or baking dish set aside

Combine oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter in a bowl set aside.

Peel and slice apples then arrange in a greased skillet. Add water and lemon juice.

Top with oatmeal mixture.

Bake on center rack for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve warm.

Recipe Notes

For anyone who has not had their fill yet of pumpkin spice everything, it’s a wonderful substitute for cinnamon in this recipe. Can you believe I just made my second batch? You can make your own too by clicking on pumpkin spice recipe.

This recipe can be made with all-purpose flour instead or keep is as a gluten-free option with oats.

I’ve also made this recipe with granulated sugar instead of brown sugar. The consistency of the oat mixture will be a little more crumbly but still tastes delicious.

Serving Suggestions

Truthfully, I like my apple crisp plain straight out of the oven, but I admire your ambitiousness if you’re looking to impress your guests. Serve in a shallow dish or bowl with a scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream or whipped cream with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.

Breakfast anyone? Indulge yourself with a scoop of apple crisp on top of your morning vanilla yogurt. That’s deliciousness in a bowl!
