Today I’m sharing ideas for decorating with green that are subtle, so if you’re not ready to commit to lime green chairs or palm leaf wallpaper that’s alright. Growing up in a home full of those 70s greens and yellows, I should be an expert on the subject. No we didn’t have lemon wallpaper or an avocado fridge, but we did have an olive-green velvet sofa that I remember being very comfortable. We also had green carpet throughout the house except in my room which was blue, no surprise there.
Even though my decorating color scheme went in a couple of different directions over the years, I still love all shades of green. To me, green is one of those neutral colors that goes with everything, just look at the great outdoors.
Warmer temperatures are just around the corner, so this is a great time to share a few subtle ideas for decorating with green.
Organic Additions
If you’re like me you may have been decorating with green and not even realized it. Decorating with plants is at the top of my list for the easiest way to add vivid heathy color to your home. Plants work fairly well for me as long as I remember to water them of course.

Something you might consider if you don’t have a green thumb is to pick up a bundle of greenery at your local grocery store floral department. Big green leaves in a vase or bottle are easy to add to your coffee table or mantel. These big leaves have lasted for several weeks now.

Green Accessories
My round-up of vintage collectables have different shades of green all mixed together. On the coffee table I have an eclectic mix of accessories gathered from around the house.
A green metal lock box still has an old string tied to the key. The white crock with green lettering is a new find and looks pretty with the green glazed pot holding a maiden hair fern.

Artwork, Pillows and Furniture
So much of my color inspiration comes from the art work I have throughout the house. When I shop for pillows and throws I think about how I can repeat those colors. The olive and celery green stripes on the pillows are subtle but they still add a happy vibe to the room.
The little chartreuse painted stool moved from downstairs is another punch of color, and makes a handy side table.
For an unexpected pop of color on the mantel, I added a wool felt pompom garland. I love using garlands because they’re fun and festive no matter what season we’re celebrating.
