It’s projects like this one on how to update a wreath with greenery, that I really enjoy during the holidays. I just love the aroma of fresh greenery and how it seems to take the edge off the cold weather outside. Surprisingly it doesn’t take a whole lot of greenery to make a home feel cozy.
I have the cutest pine and cedar wreath with silver bells, that I wanted to give just a little attention to. With some left over greenery from my mantel and I thought I could freshen up this little wreath.
This simple project only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete which leaves lots of time for other holiday activities.
How To Update A Wreath With Greenery
Since I’m not using my chalkboard for an advent calendar this year, I thought this would be a pretty spot for a wreath. Plus this side of the room needs some holiday cheer too.
I love mixing real and faux greenery in my Christmas and winter decor. It’s a great trick that I’ve used for years because basically, it works.
The greenery on this wreath is actually in really good condition. I could add more faux greenery, but it’s that wintery pine and cedar scent I’m longing for right now.
Using Evergreens For Filler
There are lots of evergreens that will work as filler with a wreath like this one. Here are a just a few suggestions.
- holly
- boxwood
- pine
- spruce
- cedar
- cypress
- juniper
The first step is cutting pine and cedar branches into short stems, about 6 to 8 inches long.
On the back side of the wreath you’ll see wire loops holding the vine wreath together. This is where I wedge in fresh clippings. I can also wedge stems on the front of the wreath between the faux greenery.
The wreath looks so pretty with that little extra bit of fullness, and I can replace dried greenery with fresh as needed. Fresh greenery also gives the wreath a homemade look, instead of something straight out of a bargain bin.
