Today I’m sharing how to make a headboard slipcover and Euro sham for the guest room. Like so many projects this one had me reconsidering my original vision. In the end I’m very happy with how the slipcover turned out and it’s always fun to share the process.

In the planning stages I thought of making a reversible slipcover but forgot about the curving front and straight back. Then not finding the right shade of blue gingham fabric was disappointing. Of course, I can’t go wrong opting for blue and white ticking which is always a classic.
How To Make A Headboard Slipcover
First step, I cut out the fabric with the headboard on the floor. Then moving the headboard to a standing position to pin the front and back together.
Next I sewed the front and back together by stitching the top and sides. The bottom of the slipcover is left open with a simple hem.
How To Make The Simplest Euro Sham
The other fabrics intended for the reversible side of the slipcover became a Euro sham, so that’s a win-win.
In some ways I was more excited about the Euro sham than the slipcover. I’ve been saving the Laura Ashley fabric for just the right project since vacationing in Scotland. When we spotted a Laura Ashley store and I was completely star-struck because everything in the store was saying take me home.
Sounds weird right? Who buys fabric on vacation? Well, apparently I do!
The simplest Euro sham is two square pieces of fabric (adding two inches for hem allowance on one end), sewn on three side, and open at the top just like a pillow case.
I added a hem to the top and attached the ties made from left over ticking fabric. For a different look change the opening and attach the ties on the side or bottom.
SUPPLIES I USED FOR THIS PROJECT
- Fabric for headboard and Euro sham
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Straight pins
- Sewing Machine (similar to mine)
- Thread
- Iron and ironing board
- Euro pillow insert
I think the reversible Euro sham is so much fun and looks cute with either side on display. This is a full size bed, so one Euro sham seems like enough for an inviting look.
The classic white linen quilt and pillow shams brighten the blue walls in the guest room keeping it from getting to dark. Plus white goes with everything.
For a pop of color I switched the lamp on the bedside table to a Japanese style. I also added some postcards to the framed vintage ceiling tin over the bed with magnets. It’s like a mini bulletin board. Why I didn’t think of this before, I have no idea.
