Today I’m sharing how to create a fall basket vignette with gourds, pumpkins and dried grasses. It’s a little early in the season, but I’m starting to get those fall feels, are you? For me, all it takes is a brief break in weather, and I’m ready to start making some subtle changes.

It’s time for our August Pinterest challenge, and as you can guess we’re creating fall baskets. Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for lots of fall ideas that you can use in the coming months.

Our photo inspiration for August is from the blog of Janelle Trinette. In her post she shares how to style a fall basket, and I’m loving her rustic mix of colors and textures.

How To Create A Fall Basket Vignette
The first step is to make a little platform in your basket, so that you can create the illusion of a full basket of pumpkins or gourds.
I’m using a plaid throw blanket, because the colors and pattern say fall to me. However, if you don’t want to use a throw blanket, you can use some small towels or a stack of books.
Second step is adding dried foliage, and I have a great tip to share with you. Use paper towel tubes cut in half or toilet paper tubes to hold the tall grasses in place, and keep them from falling over. The paper tubes are wedged between the throw blanket and the inside of the basket. Easy peasy!
Now you’re ready to arrange your dried gourds or pumpkins in the basket. To fill the top portion of the basket, I’m using two large dried gourds and several medium size gourds.
In our inspo photo, Janelle is using wood slices to create a cute platform for pumpkins. Instead of wood slices I’m using a wood chair to elevate the basket.
Did you also notice the beautiful vintage door behind the fall basket in the inspo photo? What a beautiful backdrop, don’t you agree? For a little pop of interest, I’m using a printers drawer leaning against the wall, which I think does the trick.
To finish the fall basket vignette, three faux pumpkins in green and white add color at the base of the chair.
