I’m having a bit of fun escaping the heat by updating the guest bedroom with French country accents. Now the room feels fresh, inviting, and all I had to do was reuse things I already had.

Guest Bedroom With French Country Accents
Most of the furnishings are sill the same in the guest room such as the French blue ticking stripe headboard slipcover. It’s still one of my favorite features in the room, and it has a country French feel that I just love.

Comfortable bedding includes linen sheets, and a light weight linen quilt, which is a must for hot summer nights. I’m a huge fan of linen, and I’ve been slowly replacing all of our old sheets the last few years. There’s just something about sleeping on linen sheets that is so relaxing and restful for me.
Normally I love piling on the pillows, but one small accent pillow is all we need on a full size bed. The blue and white paisley design looks cool and inviting.
Vintage Transferware and Tray
I have a very small collection of vintage French transferware, and I love displaying them around the room. They’re different shades of blue, but they mix together beautifully.
The vintage French wicker tray was an Etsy find a few years ago. I had visions of using it in the guest bath, but I love the color and texture it adds in this little corner.
French Style Baskets
The French style laundry basket and market tote are handy for storing quilts and throws. I love having quilts out on display, and the oversized basket keeps them handy at the foot of the bed.
Did you notice the colorful vintage quilt on the bed? My grandmother made lots of quilts, but I think this one will always be my favorite. There’s just something about that green diamond detail, that I love with the pastel colors.
Artwork and Flowers
Last year I rearranged the furniture moving the desk next to the bed. It just seems to make more sense on this wall, and it also serves as a bedside table.
I can set artwork on top, and still have room for a few books. There’s also plenty of space for guests to unpack their personal belongs.
The landscape art print with soft soothing colors, and European feel works well in this room. I also have a French urn with lavender watercolor I painted several years ago, but just recently framed for display. For a closer look click on my Society6 store.
On the other side of the bed is a tray table. I painted it several years ago after taking an Annie Sloan painting class, which in part sparked my desire to start blogging. It’s just big enough for a lamp, and a few accessories including flowers.
I love picking up mini bouquets of flowers at the grocery store, and adding a few clippings from our garden. This one easily fits in a small wicker candle holder.
Our flowers are having such a hard time with the extreme heat this summer, so I don’t feel too guilty cutting a few to enjoy indoors.
Of course, one exception is the huge Crape Myrtle outside this second story bedroom window. Don’t you just love these gorgeous vibrant pink blooms?
