Fall Mantel With Pumpkins And Candles

Everyday now, our daylight hours are getting shorter which means it’s time to make the house more cozy. With that in mind I created a glowing fall mantel with pumpkins and candles.

The set-up on the fireplace mantel starts with a vintage French baguette dough tray, that I picked up at the Canton flea market in east Texas several years ago. It has lots of character adding a bit of rustic wood to the fall mantel.

Next I added white baby boo pumpkins which are just the right size to nestle on the vintage dough tray. In the past I’ve used mini orange pumpkins on the mantel but I just can’t resist the cute baby boos.

For a bit of green I gathered oak leaf bundles which are scattered over one side of the yard from our neighbors tree. Free for the taking I say, and green always looks good on our white mantel. Some of the leaf bundles still have acorns attached.

Now for the beautiful glow of candles. Yes I do love real candles but I’m very careful as to when and where I use them. Of course it’s easy to light candles and forget about them, so if you prefer use flameless candles instead.

Safety tip: Never leave a burning candle unattended.

For my cozy mantel I scattered candles around the pumpkin arrangement, which creates the perfect mood lighting for watching movies on chilly evenings.

The leaf garland hanging under the mantel was the first fall decor I put up this year. Since it’s white I may just kept it up through winter.

Mantels can be tricky to decorate so when you find a formula that works for you, stick to it. My formula is usually asymmetrical with one or two objects on the right and two or three objects on the left of the painting. I also go by the less is more rule because the mantel is only deep enough for slender items.

The focal point on the fall mantel this year is centered on the pumpkin arrangement repeating those soft green colors from the painting with oak leaves.

Decorating Tip: If you’re trying to figure out what colors to use on your mantel or room decor, pull colors from your artwork. The landscape watercolor above the mantel has beautiful shades of green, which I love to repeat by using greenery for seasonal decorating.
