Fall Home Tour With Subtle Colors

Thank you for stopping by to see my fall home tour with subtle colors today. This years tour of the living room looks a little different, because I’ve been busy swapping furniture and artwork around. It’s kind of fun angling the camera to capture new views of the room to share with you.

Fall Home Tour With Subtle Colors

When you think about decorating for fall do you feel a bit overwhelmed? If you’re saying yes, I’m right there with you. That’s why this year my approach is keeping things as uncomplicated as possible by mixing seasonal and everyday decor together.

My style continues to be a bit eclectic, mixing antiques with classic furniture and simple lines. The look is easy to live with and can be as casual as I want it to be.

Decorating With Small Flower Arrangements

Decorating with subtle fall colors starts with a small flower arrangement on the secretary desk. These delicate little yellow and red blooms are from the Mexican Fire Bush that we have in the back garden. Their blooms are at their best in September, that’s when they attract lots of hummingbirds migrating south.

It only takes a few clippings to make a pretty pop of color, and of course I love any type of greenery too.

Did you notice the ironstone platters have a new home next to the secretary? I’m still looking for a third piece to add to the collection but for now this look will do.

Another small flower arrangement adds more subtle color to the side table. Here I have more clippings from the garden and some leftover greenery from an arrangement on the entry table (more on that to come).

A small blue and white bowl holds mini pinecones, which adds a contrast of color and texture to the wicker tray.

Rearranging Furniture

In addition to switching chairs around, the bar cart is in a new location next to the sofa, which makes this corner a little more interesting. Simple bare branches in a glass jug add a bit of height next to a philodendron and landscape watercolors.

By the way this is my first philodendron, and we’re still trying to get to know each other. I’m keeping an eye on it, and thinking it may need a brighter corner to survive. Suggestions?

Sitting on the ottoman is a simple tray vignette with a glass demijohn holding preserved hydrangea stems, a cute striped pumpkin and oak leaves in a ironstone jar.

A mix of neutral colored pillows decorate the sofa, and with fall in the air, I have an excuse to pull out a plaid throw blanket or two.

All these colors blend in so well with the oversized watercolor over the sofa. Every time I post photos of this room I get a number of questions about it. Just for fun I’m including a close up of the polo match so you can see some of the beautiful colors in the painting.
