Elderflower Grapefruit Margarita Cocktail Recipe

Just in time for the weekend, I have a delicious elderflower grapefruit margarita cocktail recipe for you. If you’re a margarita lover like me, then you will no doubt appreciate a twist on the classic version. This simple three ingredient recipe will turn any occasion into something special in a moments notice.

After hearing a lot of buzz lately about elderflower liqueur, I decided I had to give it a try. I’m happy to report a new bottle now holds a place of distinction in our liquor cabinet. Its flavor points definitely do not disappoint, and I can’t wait to try it in other cocktails.

Today’s cocktail features St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur for a tropical citrus flavor that is bright and delicate. Combining elderflower liqueur with fresh grapefruit juice, and tequila makes this cocktail seem almost exotic.

The key to any recipe is using the best ingredients, so making this one with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice is a must. Then get ready to enjoy a mix of tropical flavors with just enough sweetness to satisfy your sophisticated margarita loving palate.

The measurements in this cocktail follows the original margarita recipe, that I’ve been making for years.

  1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a cup of ice.
  2. Shake for 20 to 30 seconds then strain into a glass with fresh ice.
  3. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit or a wedge of lime.

What about the salt rim? I say make it like you like it. There’s no rule that says you have to drink a margarita with a salt rim, but it does look pretty!

The easiest way to salt the rim of a glass is to take a wedge of lime and run it around the rim. Invert the glass into a shallow bowl or saucer of salt. The salt will then stick to the lime juice.

Elderflower Grapefruit Margarita Cocktail Recipe Variations

I like offering variations because experimenting with recipes is what makes mixology so much fun. So if you’re not into grapefruit then sub in fresh lime juice for a elderflower margarita instead.
