Decorating With Hints Of Blue

I love decorating with hints of blue around our home, because it gives off those fresh vibes that feel so laid-back. Of course blue just happens to be my favorite color, so it’s not surprising to see how many blue accents have wound their way through our home.

Today I’m giving a quick tour of the living room to highlight some of those blue accents. I think you’ll agree they really do brighten up the neutral colors in the room. As you look around you’ll see something blue on almost every surface just check out the list below.

Decorating With Hints Of Blue

Artwork And Accessories

So many of the accessories in this room including the artwork, are family pieces that have been collected over time. The blue shades vary greatly in each painting, but somehow they blend together beautifully.

On the ottoman I have a little stack of toile print coasters adding a pop of blue next to my mom’s decorative coastal bowl.

I was barely a teenager when my mom bought the bowl, but I remember her explaining how the same shades of blues and orange are found in the room’s area rug. After all these years her classic style and sense of color coordinating are still inspiring how I decorate in my home.

Pillows

Pillows are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to interject color into a room. I still love this blue and white fabric and how pretty it looks with the ticking pillow.

Vintage Glass And Decorative Boxes

A large vintage demijohn sits on top of the bar cart, which I’m currently using as an end table. The bottle has such a pretty shape and the soft blue patina of the glass adds just a hint of color to this corner.

Every spring I love decorating with my little Limoges boxes. This year I’m displaying them on the secretary desk in the little cubbies and on a stack of books. Sitting in the middle is a miniature oil painting of white flowers with a blue background. The tiny details of the little basket are amazing to look at up close.

Before turning the secretary into a liquor cabinet, I painted the back of the shelves a soft gray blue. The lighter backdrop makes a huge difference and the color shows off the barware and liquor bottles.
