Counter Clutter Contained

I have a box full of projects and like everything else in my house this one is saying, “paint me, please!” I  liked the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint so much on my last project that I decided to use it again.  The desk organizer doesn’t  take up  much room on the kitchen counter and can hang out with my laptop.  Papers on the counter drive me crazy although sometimes it can’t be avoided. I’m feeling optimist this will keep it contained.

For this project I picked Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Ironstone because I wanted the desk organizer to blend in with the kitchen back splash.  White accessories seem to do well in my kitchen because of the dark cabinets and granite counter tops. The drawers are not very big but I decided I could mount small pulls on the three drawers if I turn the drawers around putting the cut out in the back.

Following the directions on the package I mixed the paint powder, water and bonding agent  in a container with a lid.  I applied 3 coats of paint, letting each coat dry. Then I sanded lightly on all sides and added the drawer pulls which I found at Lowe’s.  I measured at least 5 times on each drawer to make sure the pulls were spaced correctly. If they were off even an 1/8 of an inch it would have been noticeable.

The drawer pulls were too shiny.  On a whim I painted over them and then sanded lightly.  Sometimes I get carried away  and forget to take pictures of all the steps.  Anyway the drawer pulls look better painted. Trust me!

Instead of using the furniture wax I decided to try the Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil this time.  There is only a slight difference in the color but the overall finish has more depth and interest. The oil takes about 24 hours to dry but of course I couldn’t wait that long before taking pictures.

I’m very pleased with the results and poof the clutter is gone!
