Bathroom Organizing And Decluttering Tips

Let’s face it, I love to organize, and I’m always looking for opportunities to make a room function better. This time I’m turning my attention back to our primary bathroom. Drawers can hide a lot of clutter, but think how refreshing it is when you slide open a drawer to see that everything is in its place.

Start With A Clean Slate

The first step in any organizing project is cleaning. My approach is breaking it down into manageable tasks.

Decluttering And Editing

Now that we have a clean slate we can start organizing which includes decluttering. I like to declutter as I go, making the decision on the spot what to toss and what to keep.

I have to tell you, it feels great getting rid of things that we no longer need or find useful. If you’re not sure where to start, this helpful list will give you an idea of what to consider when decluttering and editing.

I’m always a little surprised at how much stuff we collect over time and never use. Do you feel like that too?

Organizing Drawers

In my post Easy Bathroom Organizing Ideas I had reservations about some of the “pretty” cloth type containers I bought.

Sure enough those are now gone, and new plastic organizing containers are taking there place. Let’s face it, the bathroom can be a messy place where bottles leak or spill. I much prefer containers that I can clean and continue to use.

Plastic organizer bins are in every drawer, and also in the under the sink cabinets. Some of the bins are stackable which is perfect for saving space. I’m also using a variety of sizes for the types of products we use.

Organizing is not very complicated when you arrange like things together. For example, we had six boxes of band-aids taking up valuable space. Now all the individual band-aids are in two small plastic bins that are easy to find and retrieve.

My favorite organized drawer is for makeup. I may not have the most exciting makeup drawer, but I love how everything looks in the individual drawer dividers.

Organizing Cabinets

I’m still loving the wire mesh pull out bins which are perfect for over the counter medications. In the same cabinet I keep cleaning supplies and paper towels handy.

In the other cabinet I’m replacing the fabric bins and adding a few stackable bins for soap, loofas and wash cloths. My hair dryer and straightener are now in a basket I’m repurposing from the family room. With so much plastic, I’m craving something organic and hopefully the basket will remain stain free.

Linen Closet Organization

The linen closet features the same peel and stick wallpaper that is in the drawers. I still love this simple pattern, and don’t have any plans on replacing or updating it.

Large cloth bins on open shelves hold sheets, towels, tissue, and a blanket. The bottom shelf is both useful and decorative. I love using the large glass apothecary jars for storage.

We try to keep the counter as cutter free as possible with only a decorative tray, a mirror, and hand soap. The towel rack also helps to keep the counter tidy, and is one of my favorite features in the bathroom.
