Now that I have temporarily quenched my thirst for all things Scottish, it’s time to reveal some of my favorites, from the Isle of Skye, to Pitlochry, to Edinburgh. Too bad I don’t have a photo of every plaid pattern I saw on my trip to Scotland, but I do have wonderful experiences and places worth sharing.
FAVORITE HOTEL – Stay Central, Edinburgh

My first impression was right…smart, witty and ingenious. The cheerful decor of STAY could perk up the most weary traveler with comic book wallpaper, comfortable beds, a wall map of Edinburgh, walk-in waterfall shower and loads of clever travel comforts. STAY is within easy walking distance to the train station, the Royal Mile, the Haymarket area and King George IV Bridge.
Not fancy, just brilliant.
FAVORITE B&B – Annslea Bed & Breakfast, Pitlochry
Fresh, immaculate and inviting. Each room was lovely, displaying pretty linens and stylish antiques.
The Annslea B&B, also delighted us with the best breakfast imaginable. Our traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes were seasoned to perfection.
BEST TEA CAKES – Tunnock’s Tea Cakes
A little bite of heaven…milk chocolate coating a fluffy marshmallow filling, sitting on a crispy biscuit. Where have you been all my life?!
BEST STARTER
Settling in at the Fairy Cottage Restaurant in Pitlochry – we devoured the Mushroom, Garlic & Parmesan Cream Bake. In fact we requested extra bread, just so we could prolong and savor every drop.
FAVORITE SPIRITS – Caorunn and Crossbill Gin
Of course I have my short list of favorite whiskies, but sometimes I enjoy the crisp taste of gin. After trying a few highly recommended selections from the Gin Menu at the Fairy Cottage, I’ve decided more sampling will be required in order pick my absolute favorite.
MOST PICTURESQUE VILLAGE – Portree, Isle of Skye
The bay was peaceful at dawn with the sailing and fishing boats dotting the rippling water. Portree is a gracious and quaint village freckled with happy colors and friendly people. Every view was captivating.
FAVORITE SOFT DRINK
Irn-Bru is the soft drink of choice and I can understand why.
FAVORITE FARM ANIMALS? – Heelin Coo and sheep.
FAVORITE RESTAURANT – Scorry Breac, Portree, Isle of Sky
One glance at the menu and I knew our evening would be a culinary event. The entrees and desserts were created with the freshest ingredients and delicately plated. The aromatic flavor combinations sent my taste buds into overdrive. Scorry Breac was no doubt one of the best dining experiences I have ever had on holiday.

FAVORITE SOUVENIR – Skye Cuillin Marble

Before leaving Portree my daughter and I both found earrings we fancied made from marble. We now have a little piece of Skye to treasure always.
FAVORITE TAVERN – Castle Tavern, Inverness
Enjoyed having a few brews at the Castle Tavern with Bonnie Prince Charlie.
FAVORITE SIGN – Dogs Welcome
The Scots love their dogs, and we loved watching friendly wagging tails, as they would come and go from the pubs.
