Have you ever wondered where bloggers get their ideas? Well some of mine are highly planned and some just happen. Today’s post Organizing A Kitchen, started yesterday when I declared war on the kitchen junk drawer. The before photo is a bit embarrassing, but hey I’m not perfect even on my best day. Shocking I know!
If you look closely you can see under the paraphernalia there is a drawer organizer tray system. The problem is that most of the clutter belongs somewhere else, therefore the nice little trays don’t stand a chance.
The same trays were reused with room to spare. What a huge difference, in fact I’m thinking about renaming the junk drawer. Suggestions?
I think organizing boils down to the simple motto:
A place for everything and everything in its place
My goal is to create an organized solution for every cabinet, drawer and shelf in the kitchen. In theory, everything should have a place to be stored, and should be consistently returned when not in use. Let me share with you a few organized spaces that have proven to work over time for me.
Kitchen Pantry
I snapped these photos yesterday without straightening a thing, and it looks almost the same as it did seven months ago when I posted Organizing A Kitchen Pantry.
The pantry stays organized because everything has a place. The jars are refilled after my weekly grocery shopping and the other shelves have been easy to maintain.
Kitchen Cabinets
The cabinet contents in my kitchen have been reduced quite a bit in the last year by donating household goods to local charities. The shelves seem so spacious now. The dishes are organized by grouping like things together, and less used items are placed toward the top.
Kitchen Drawers
A recent addition to the kitchen is a knife dock that fits inside a drawer. There’s no question as to where knifes should be stored and the knife blades are protected by returning them to the dock.
A narrow drawer close to the patio door holds all the grilling tools. Simple!
The best part of having an organized kitchen is being able to find what I need when I need it. That way I can concentrate on the important things, such as sharing good food with the friends and family I love!
